Callaway Apex MB '16?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

has anyone heard please any news about Apex MB '16?

The Apex CF 16, Apex Pro 16 are out on the market, but I haven't heard anything about replacement of MBs from 2014 yet... And now, they are not even listed at Callaway site - unless you search specifically for them.

Not many pros are playing w/ MBs, but on contrary, the reviews from "ordinary golfers" were very favorable. So any insights as to the launch date, new enhancements would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Lukas

Most of the tour players who play Callaway and play blades use the MB1. They made such a great design with the original xprototypes there was no reason to change.

Welcome to the site! You will quickly learn that there is nothing "ordinary" about the typical WRXer. A 325 yard carry with the driver is considered "ordinary" here and if you don't play blades your not a real golfer. :)

I've been playing the X Protos since 2011 and I have not hit anything that would feel as solid as these or that would make me think about changing them, very solid and great looking clubs, not to mention easy to hit as well...

So true , this should be a sticky so that all non believers would hence forth be pre-warned ! Good grief give me a break! To the op. Most Callaway staffers play the mb1 or the razr MB ( exact same iron different logo) and not the apex. My guess is that Callaway is cooking something up to get them all to go with the new Iron . Because a rebadged apex or mb1 isn't going to do it. B

Relaunch the X Protos with an Apex nameplate and you will have a Titleist convert here! Awesome stick!

I've been begging for the MB1 to be released for over a year now. Have heard that Callaway wants to focus on the Apex Pro this year and get as many of their tour staff playing that club as possible. Still think the solution would be to re-introduce the Tour Authentic line. My X-Protos should be back from refinishing soon tho! So I can wait another year for the MB1.

Right, I went from 2009 X Forged to these, and I thought the 2009 X Forged were the best irons I have ever played/hit, then I got these and it didn't take long to feel comfortable selling the X Forged, trully a great iron...

I hope to be getting my second set of MB1's next month. I love them. They will be my 4th set in a row. I went from x proto to muscle back to MB1. I hit a tour version of the Apex MB last year, and while they were quite solid, they weren't the MB1.

Play the protos so it would be nice to have a backup set. I tried to talk Reed out if his at Firestone but no luck.

Are they a your department option?

Anything is a tour department option. If you have access to the tour department

Obviously I meant only a tour option.

I imagine so unless you catch a set on eBay, which is rare.

I went from X Proto's to MB1 to Apex MB's & see absolutely no difference between the 3 other than different stamping. As long as their built the same I doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference, if there's any complaints I have it's the 8/9 irons are cutting the snot out of balls.

The first version of Apex MB and MB1 are definately different. Are you talking about the RAZR mb?

What's the difference between MB1's and X-Protos? The sole grind? Somewhat considered myself a Callaway Iron Aficionado but I don't know anything about MB1's, I just thought there was tour issue X-Protos, not a iron with a completely different name.

not a ton.... but the MB1 and razr x MB are the ones that are identical except logo...the proto is a touch smaller all over..( I mean miniscule) and conforming grooves are very rare ...although some tour V heads were made... not many ( maybe none ) of the guys playing protos anymore.... the MB1 or razr x MB is what most except Phil are playing...and god only knows how much they pay him to play the newest MB instead of the MB1 or razr x MB

Might just be me but I thought the Apex MBs felt a bit on the lighter side and required a decent bit of lead tape. Anyone else feel the same?

I have a set of the protos and to me the newer forgings vs the old have a different feel to me. I always felt like the protos had the buttery softness few irons I have had could match. The newer MB's just dont quite feel the same. Dunno what it is but something is not exact. Dont get me wrong they all feel great but the original protos quite possibly could be my fav iron of all time and Ive hit a lot!

Common issue that a lot of guys complained about. I believe the stock swing weight was D1 which is ridiculous for a forged blade.

Could be, mine were built to a D5 sw, not sure how much weight they had to add to get it there
