Patrick Gibbons Handmade vs Piedmont Leather Company

Has anyone had experience comparing both companies work? I'm looking to invest in my first alligator skin belt. The quality of craftsmanship on both websites looks superb.

Any thoughts and or recommendations?

In my experience Gibbons is of the highest quality and right on par with HOF stuff. Piedmont makes decent stuff, but not as good as Gibbons. Obviously you're going to get what you pay for and HOF is above the rest.

That's very helpful, thank you. Can I ask how the price compares between HoF and the others. The American alligator belts I've been looking at from Patrick Gibbons and Piedmont are about $400. Is there a sizeable difference in price and do you think the price of HoF belts is worth it?

My absolute favorite is House of Fleming. It is also the most expensive. The skins are nicer, you're more apt to get one piece skins instead of a few put together, the backing leather of the strap is much better. IMO their straps wear better over time, for example not as apt to curl across the strap width. Like one person said earlier, you get what you pay for. Their lizard skins in general are very different in quality compared to Gibbons and Piedmont. Kleinberg is most comparable to HOF and a little cheaper. I've purchased product from both Patrick Gibbons and Piedmont. Both Patrick and Jay provide excellent customer service. Jay replaced a 2 year old strap that faded terribly and Patrick took back a special order that wasn't the color I was expecting. Neither had to and needless to say I was extremely thankful. Decided to make the one and most likely only jump to HOF this summer to purchase the DJ grey and white alligator belt, wow is all I can say. Product shipped the next day and the quality was phenomenal.

I would vote for Patrick Gibbons.

I've emailed and posted a couple things on Piedmont's instagram (once asking about a Bettinardi divot tool holster...he was making them for cameron divot tools)...and he deleted my comment.

I have a couple belts and pairs of shoes from Patrick Gibbons and they are Awesome!! His customer service is great too. Very responsive and willing to make about anything.

I have around 6 straps from each of them, lizard, stingray, ostrich, snake. IMO the Gibbons straps are a touch thicker, But the customer service from Jay @ Piedmont is by far the best. I get a hand written note from him every time saying thank you for my business, that doesn't go unnoticed. I have gone away from PG a bit because I sent in an order for a hand painted croc belt last year, and never heard anything back from them. Now the PG shoes, those are a different story....OMG.

I will continue to do a bit of research. Living in Scotland I can't order an exotic leather belt from the States. It's against the law to ship exotic leather skins internationally. I'm going to be visiting family in Florida in May so my plan is to decide what exactly I want and from whom in time for the custom belt to be ready for my arrival in May.

Not sure what PG could do with my orders to make the process better. I can't compare the two, but PG is an incredibly honest and all around stand up guy with great products that reflect his passion.

Since both Piedmont and PG belts come from the same place, I go with the one on sale. And yes, they do come from the same place.

Ha. I didn't want to be the one to say it. But he's correct. Skins are the same skins for both. So quality the same. Hof skins are considerably better and it's not close.
