Any word on a new Taylormade UDI coming out?

Looking at picking one up but notice that the price on the US website is down from $199 to $99. Unfortunately no such reduction here in Oz land and would be bummed to buy one only for a new version to be released. Haven't seen any buzz on a new model so maybe the original was a bit of a sales flop and they just want to clear the stock?

In true tm fashion, they are just marking them down. To clear stock. And really 99 dollars is closer to where this price should have started at, being that it's really just an iron. But anyway, with other companies still doing driving irons... I would imagine something would be coming that's the next generation. Would love to see a toned down DHy type club from them.

Never got a chance to hit the UDI - heard great things though. I know the Titleist 712-U was a great 260 yard club, I can't imagine the Taylormade was any different. Been seeing new ones on eBay for $79.99.....might be worth adding to the bag and kicking a wedge out.

I picked up a RSi UDI 23 degree from last year, it is very nice and got it at a good price. Getting it shafted up right now, not that i can play with this weather but sure cant wait to try it. I went with a hybrid shaft in it, just got it back today. Now the wait till i can hit it.

Almost all new driving irons are traditionally released during the British Open (Open Championship).

A new driving iron will probably be aligned with the New M3 that is due out anytime now since the M2 has been on tour for a month.

There was a RSi UDI very briefly, which I'm pretty sure was just a rebadged tour preferred UDI with badging being the only difference. Seemed to have been swept under the rug jet speed style though. If you want a new TM driving iron just get order single M2 4 or 5 irons, they're like 19* and 21.5* already or something like that. Can probably get them bent stronger from TM if you really want

I agree that TM priced them too high to entice most ho's. I'm sure for TM's part they figured that every sold UDI is an unsold fairway, and priced it to be as profitable as a fairway.

I currently have a 5 wood, and a 3 hybrid. Is there an opportunity for me to use the UDI? If so, which club(s) would it potentially replace?

The 18* UDI is probably right in line with your 3 hybrid from a loft standpoint.

The UDI will like travel as far as the 3 hybrid, but in a different way. For me, the 3 hybrid flies higher and spins more than my 18* UDI, which flies lower, spins less, and rolls out more.

UDI is better off the tee, hybrid is better off the turf.

I can interchange the two based on the course I'm playing.

Just order a M2 4 iron. Longer than any UDI offered by TM...

I have a OG UDI #4 and was really hoping that the face slots would be incorporated into the design last year. Didn't happen so, maybe this year.

Oh, I had to get a UDI #3 with the badge just to say I had one!

Can't stand C-Taper feel but in the UDI I hit, the C-taper 120 or lite or whatever it was felt really good. Solid club, good for off tee on short narrow par 4's.

I replaced mine with the Modus 120 stiff and love them. Great off the tee and easy to get from the fairway. Slightly suspect out of the rough. That's why I carry a hybrid also.

I picked up a RSI UDI for $69 on the bay new.....Love it...even with the stock Ctaper light shaft in it.

Is there much difference between the RSi TP badged UDIs and the tour preferred script ones?

I picked up a brand new, still in the shrink wrap, RSI TP UDI 3 20* with CTaper Lite a few days ago, for $82 from an online discount store. It came in today so I took it out onto the course behind my house. I hit mostly shots off a tee just to get a feel for it, and hit a few off the fairway. I liked it, although it's definitely not as forgiving as a hybrid. It's not supposed to be though, and it seems to do well what it's I tended for. Well struck shots had a nice pentetrating flight that really rolled out on landing. If you mishit it, you'll know it, as in if you catch it thin, you can get your hands stung like any blade like iron. :) After some toying with my setup and ball placement, I was consistently hitting it well. I feel like the UDI had more control than a hybrid, giving me confidence that I could keep this thing in play off the tee and not worry about a big hook appearing like the hybrid occasionally does. The UDI seems to be a nice club, although you better have at least some type of ball striking ability to go into the lower lofts, as you can't hit this thing all over the face. One other thing of note. Hitting the UDI off the tee, several times I noticed some heavy sparks at impact. I thought only titanium did this. Weird, anyone know how a steel iron would spark the grass? Never noticed it on anything other than a driver before....

My new home course is too soft to use it off the tee - the things a monster if you play on firm fairways.

We got a kid at ferris in pgm who swing 7 iron 105 and I seen him carry tmb 3 iron 253. but to complain about 260 not being long enough, its an iron

Good as the first one was a retail dud. Too few prospects had the skill to hit it. We had three come in, I sold two for $239 each the first weekend, the third sat unlooked at for six months and was finally cleared out for $100.

I wondered the same thing when I first saw the M2s announced. My only concern was that they are designed to be higher launching, so as a driving iron, I wonder if the flight will be higher than what I am looking for. In a driving iron, I want a lower more penetrating flight that runs out. My UDI does that, although it is not quite as forgiving other driving irons. Maybe replacing the stock M2 shaft with a lower launching stiffer tip shaft would be the ticket if you want to go that route.
