Black Lab putters

I've seen a couple on Ebay, was wanting to know what the deal is with this company. Haven't found much. Are they legit, nice putters?

From what I hear his shop is around Savannah GA. I tried to find out where etc. since I live close and really haven't heard much else about him. Somebody on here bought a putter from him and liked it and I tried to get some info.

No experience with them myself but I've seen a few posts here that make me want one!

From what I've seen, they look pretty nice. Though for some of the prices I am seeing, I am not sure it would be worth it to me.

They used to be C&L putters, I have been gaming a BL-1 of theirs for about 18 months and really like it (this is coming from an owner of several Scotties and bettis)

Black Lab are a legit gamer, but it doesn't hold value like other custom putters or tour putters. So if you do buy one and it isn't for you, you will take a loss on the resale. Or you can pray that someone wins the Masters using one and then you could sell it for a nice profit

They look nice. Was curious on performance.

What sort of price points do they hit?

Black Lab is Chip Usher's (Usher Golf) putter company. Chip did a very nice job on his putter designs. The BL-1 is designed as a modern version of the Scottsdale Anser. The BL-2 is designed like an Anser 2. Every boutique putter company has its particular niche. I think Chip delivers a fantastic milled putter (in very desireable head shapes) to us at a very high level of quality and great value. Check out his ebay site for pricing. He offers all the custom stamping, finishes, grips, shafts, etc that you could ask for from a custom putter maker.

I would not hesitate to call him and discuss a putter if you have an interest. He is really easy to reach at his shop via the phone.

I live pretty close to Savannah and have been to Chips shop on numerous occasions. He's a great guy and really knows his stuff on golf equipment and fittings. In fact, he's a Miura and Mizuno dealer / fitter.

As mentioned, Chip used to be the "C" in C&L putters. He started Black Lab Golf after C&L split up. His milled heads are very well done and he does an excellent job of cleaning them up / hand shaping them, and hand stamping them (with whatever you want from his many offerings). He can make the headweight to basically whatever you want/need from 330's to 400g and set the loft / lie to your specs. He also has a supply of Tad Moore putters that he picked up from Tad awhile back, which he cleans up, sends them to be finished (BOS), and then paints them up himself. They are terrific bang-for-the-buck putters if you are ok with a 330-340g head (he can add up to 12g's of lead down the shaft upon request).

I've been collecting putters for a long time now, with about 70-80 sticks in my current collection. Everything from old Pings worth 25.00 bucks to 009's worth thousands. I have used just about every popular (and some not so well known) manufacturer out there at one time or another. With that said, I personally think the Black Lab offerings that Chip is putting out today are some of the best deals out there in a quality, milled putter.

I have picked up a couple of his Tad Moore Pro 1 TS's with 12g's of powder down the shaft and they are great sticks at a VERY reasonable price. I also have one of his carbon BL-1's (Dale Head) with a beautiful oil can finish and it's one of the best feeling putters I own - and it cost a lot less than an OTR Betti or Scotty. I recently ordered one of his BL-2's (Anser2/Newport 2 Tri-sole head) with my own design / custom stamping that I wanted and I can't wait for it to come in. I plan on it being my main gamer for 2016 (and beyond). To tell you how much I like his putters and how confident I am in their quality / feel, I even had my name stamped on the BL-2......................which I NEVER do when I order putters just in case I want to sell them at some point.

Just goes to show you how much I like his sticks and proves that I plan on keeping it. :)

Chip Usher is top notch and you cant go wrong with Black Lab. I have 2 C&L putters (his previous company) and the putters are awesome. I absolutely love both of my oil can C&L putters.

Sorry, not looking to sell or trade my BL-1.

I like it way too much (did you read my post above?).

As I said earlier, you can get into a BL-1 or BL-2 for a lot less than the cost of a OTR Scotty or Betti.

If I were you, I'd sell my Newport Select (that you wanted to trade) and use the money to order a Black Lab. You can even customize it with stamps, name, whatever weight, loft, and lie you want.

Ordered my black ox BL-2 yesterday as a celebratory piece to commemorate the birth of my daughter. Cant wait to see the progress pics and to put this thing in play next month! So pumped right now!

It's a stretch, but is there a chance he would do a blade (8802) style putter? The craftsmanship of the BL-1 is awesome, and would love to see how he does a blade style. I would buy it so fast, my bank account wouldn't know what hit it.

How long did it take you guys to get progress pics from black lab? Ordered my BL-2 almost a week ago and I can't wait to see this little beauty. Trying really hard to be patient. Haha

While yours will be great I'm sure, it still won't be the best putter ever made. Spot's already taken. Yours can be second best though, I'll allow it.

As of today, Chip will begin my BL-1 which I am over the moon for. I emailed Chip early yesterday giving a little background on me and what I wanted this putter to be. Essentially I wanted this putter to be a tribute to my four sons. These boys are the reason why I am here on Earth and are my absolute everything. Chip was so responsive and within 4 emails, we had the concept and stampings finalized. This putter will truly be priceless to me and is worth more than any Tour Issued putter I could buy. I will post over the coming days and weeks as it progresses. Thank you Chip.

It may seem long but 3 weeks is not very long to wait at all. I got a custom built and it took almost 4 months. Others through byron or lajos, machine, etc will take many months.

Chip is likely the fastest out there right now
