Budget Myrtle Beach Trip (5 days) - April 10th - RBC Heritage?

Hi All,

My name is Gordon and I am a newbie to the GolfWrx forums ... hoping to get some advice re: a 5-day road / golf trip to MB following the Masters as I/we have never been on a golf break before ... let alone to MB!

I've already done some digging re: previous MB threads and can see that a package deal seems to be the way to go ... so I've already emailed Brian at MB Golf Packagers re: potential package.

With that in mind, could anybody please share any information re: package deals that they may have had in the MB area (especially those which include golf, lodging, some food etc.)? I'm looking to see what is feasible / best given the dates of travel and probable weather (i.e. I've heard that it has been very wet this year and that some courses may best be avoided, also I have no clue if an April 10th date is particularly "peak rate" ... it seems to be considering the golf rates ... however it is well past Easter and Spring Break).

In particular, I would like to know if the "all-in" packages typically tie you into the one resort, their courses and lodgings ... away from the beach and in a more golf-only environment (which I would like to avoid).<p>

Here is our brief as it were ...

  • 2 x 30+ males on the trip, both from the UK, medium to high single figure handicappers, with rental car
  • Probable dates 10th April - 15th April (with a drive from Augusta on April 10th and a drive to Daytona Beach on April 15th)
  • Definitely looking at a budget friendly option - as the trip to Augusta is costing a small fortune
  • Looking to stay in a fair hotel (pool?) close to a beach, but would consider a B&B / apartment if it were central enough to bars, nightlife etc.
  • Definitely do not want to stay in an out-of-the-way resort with a more middle-aged, solely golf clientele
  • Looking to play decent, "character" golf courses - in good condition - between $50-$100 a round (I see this is possible from, say, a course like The Witch, Man o War etc.)
  • Hoping that any package may include a bucket of balls before the round, cart for the round, a lunch/drink afterwards etc. so that this stuff doesn't need to be thought about
  • Also hope to play one or two "knockout" courses for a decent price ... say a Caledonia or Prestwick
  • Twilight golf / rates considered given probable "nightlife" from the day before :taunt: ... and can see possibilities of this from www.teeituptomorrow.com

I'd also like to know if it is worth stopping off in HH to watch a day's play of the RBC Heritage ... and if there is any "reasonably priced" places to play on the road back down to Orlando (or if there is any possibility of last minute deals for Sawgrass  )?

Many thanks!

I have been going down to MB for summer vacation for over 20 years now. While I never booked rounds through a golf packager I do know about Brian and his company. If you have been in contact with Brian @ MB Golf Packagers you have contacted the best. If you have given him the requests you mentioned in your post he will do his utmost to meet them. Visit the Myrtle Beach Golf Talk forum (which he sponsors) for more information and trip reports. (BTW - Caledonia is in my top 10 in MB. A Caledonia and True Blue combo would be top notch! I actually like TB, also in my top 10, better than Caledonia. Both are second shot courses.)

After attending the Masters I think attending the RBC @ HHI would be a bit of a letdown. (I have played Harbor Town once. Great course to play but not a great course to watch a tournament at IMHO.)

Enjoy your trip!
