Will Jordan Spieth regain the #1 Official World Golf Ranking in 2016?

I say no. He is pushing himself way to hard right now and I think mentally he's having some major issues. I noticed this earlier in his career. He may say he's able to move on from a mistake, or a bad shot, but he really doesn't. Now it's really becoming a compounding issue for him. He's definitely not happy on the course even if he makes the tiniest mistake. Also, his putting is nowhere near where it was last year. With Day on a tear and Rory showing signs, though he's still having issues himself, I just don't see Spieth getting to the #1 spot again this year.

He's fried, proverbial flash in the pan....he'll be lucky not to be compared with the likes of Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton and Rich Beem......

This is the funniest thing I have read on here in a while. So much so that I just had to comment.

You really think a golfer with a season like 2015 is a flash in the pan? Was he a flash in the pan when he won 2 US Am's? Dude for gods sake go watch some actual golf.

I feel like Day has the game to keep Jordan out of top spot. He has scud missile long game and his short game is superb.

This is the funniest thing I've heard all week. Spieth's game is no where near in shape to win a major right now. He may turn it around, but not in time for the Masters.

day seems to be playing consistently well. I think Jordan will be in consideration for a long time. what scares me with jordan is his bad rounds. They come out of nowhere and have zero consistency. Usually there are pattern or at least explanations but not with Jordan.

The random slices with the irons was really confusing to everybody from what it seemed, which goes along with what you said. Now, it could be just a little tweak and those are gone again for however long.

Putting is currently keeping him from where he was last year, as it's not as sharp as it was. If he can get that figured out a lot of confidence to miss off the tee and with irons comes back.

I'm sure this has a lot to do with how much he is doing all of the time, but that is purely conjecture. If true, and he finds a good balance of things, I would guess that there will be a run at #1 again, while trying to hold off Rory, Jason, and to a lesser extent RIckie.

The only thing Spieth can win is the WM Phoenix Open

Because his game is trash.

Usually sarcasm is centered around a stupid quote. but you sir have mentioned 3 people, all of which did have an awful fall from grace. Jordan has yet to even have some sort of this thing happen.

So nope, nobody pissed in my Wheaties, nor did I miss the sarcasm (because there was none). You just need to do a better job with the sarcasm meter, because its way off.

All Spieth has to do is get rid of his weak left hand and be loose like an LPGA player and he'll be back to #1.....according to Johnny Miller that is.

It's pretty close and trending upwards. I would rather be where he is right now than where Day and Scott are.. It's all about peaking for the majors, not 2 or 3 weeks before. He is smart enough to understand this..

I think I heard him talking about a swing change coming into place? someone must have more details (chasing distance of the big boys) I think he will put it place , but would look more to mid/late season

Kinda funny since Rory has the distance and seems to be mentally psyched about spieth's putting prowis

Spieth seems focused on Rory's distance (and Day if you will)

Day seems to have both at the moment but I find it fascinating he needed to go to Tiger for a pep talk on a microslump ....

I think they might all flip flop the #1 ranking until someone gets confident to the point they don't care who or what anyone else brings to the table and just play ( right now its hard to say day is not in the best position but someone can bump this when Rory goes on a tear soon and day is sidelined with another injury )

I have more faith in Rickie Fowler getting to #1 before Spieth regains it. I'm feeling like this is Rory's year to win the Masters, and him, Day and Fowler will be in the Top 3 by the end of the year.

Spieth was REALLY off at the Match Play. Did he have any putts inside 20 feet? He's putting nothing close, and draining bombs from another zip code only lasts for so long. Day and McIlroy were trading blows, and they are the elite.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of Spieth; but there isn't much in his game right now that is clicking. And when he posts a picture of himself and Rickie Fowler partying on a boat in Austin tells me that the maturity factor is nowhere to be found. That goes for Rickie too. That's why Fowler isn't more consistent with his game. These young guys are so entitled and so spoiled that they have little motivation to take it to the next level. There's just too much money for top 10's now that any of these guys can coast through a year without winning and still be able to "make it rain" in Vegas if they want.

Day and McIlroy seem to be the only two with a proper perspective on this whole thing. They are the only two worth discussing as elite IMHO.

I've posted on here before that he may have had a hot run last year ... but then he won in Kapalua. I don't like his swing at all. A lot of compensations

My feeling is that he is so reliant on his wedges and putter and his mishits are so awful.

Longevity wise you have to feel Day and Rory have more street cred . .their action is so much better and more repeatable ... plus power to burn

Day's putting and short game have been impressive as well. He's won half of his last 12 tourney's or so? WOW

I found one thing from Jason Day's press conference after winning the match play to be very telling...

When talking about his strategy on his chip on 18 against Rory, he said that he wasn't worried about leaving himself 12-15 feet because he KNEW that he would make the putt.

His putting at the end of 2015 was incredible, and it seems like he has that form and confidence back at this point in the year. Have to think that his discussions with Tiger could have him brimming with confidence and ready to go on a really impressive run.

Spieth only had one bad round in the match play. Didnt play that bad and clearly in his comments, he was quite pleased for the week except for the last match. The kid clearly knows when and how to peak at the right time and until he starts playing terrible in majors I have no reason to think he wont be in contention on Sunday in the Masters
