I assume putting would be included? This would rule out the Champions tour guys certainly. Watching some of the old boys putt is scary! They can still hit it as good as anyone, but the putting is the first thing to go for sure.

Ya definitely putting is included..... You'd think putting would be the last thing to go as putting is not damaging to practice and 40 years of experience could make you one hell of a line reader....

Can't figure how to like my own posts

I really don't think so. If you watch guys like Vijay, Fred Couples, Ernie Els, they can still hit it good enough to play on the regular tour (obviously Ernie still does). But their putting is simply atrocious. The nerves go.

Vision goes away with age. Also it's very inaccurate to read greens with your eyes. But the reason most of their putting woes become later in age, is they cannot focus on the ball during the stroke, to make center contact and get the ball rolling on their intended line. Watching the golf ball is not important in any aspect of the game besides putting

I knew right when I said this someone would chime up on Spieth inside 5 feet method. I actually use this method and recommend it due the fact, it very easy to hit the center of the face when making such a slow, small stroke.

I don't think I agree. Els is #203 in GIR and #160 in total driving. He's #194 in ball striking. He's #104 in strokes gained putting. So putting is not his problem.

It's the PGA Tour.

I remember an interview during the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge a few years ago and the LPGA players were going on and on about all the "shortgame" shots and tips they'd learned playing with the men. It really surprised me because I'd of bet the women would have been better.

PGA, they are statistically better putters than the ladies.

Unfortunately the LPGA does not keep scrambling stats but they do keep sand save stats. The #5 lady in 2015 would have ranked #37 on the PGA Tour.

not to argue the fact as I think I agree but can you link the two putting stats. I did not think the LPGA kept anything but total and per gir. No shot link stats are available?

Putting ( and I assumed short game in general) would be the ultimate Man vs Woman test to see if women can beat the men because there are no other sports where men and women can compete completely on a fair level....or none that I can think of...

Billiards/Pool.

But the men are better there as well.

There's a book that's probably 7-8 years old now called "Andy Roddick beat me with a frying pan" about sports debates, exactly like this one.

Topically, one of the chapters was on Men vs Women in supposed "non-strength" sports. And in it one of the author's interviews was with if i recall the top women's pool player in the world, and she admitted that she had nothing on any of the top men. Another sport brought up was darts, where a top men's player will beat a top woman

In strength sports, the common consensus seemed to be that top women's athletes generally are on par with the top 15-16 year old boys. The women's famous US soccer team (the Mia Hamm one) used to scrimmage against the 15-16yr old male US team. Track and field times comparing this age groups are also similar

PGA Tour by a hundred miles, physical strength is being underrated in this thread, with the ability to create speed/spin, stability through rough, and so on

If this is true then just putting

The guys are better, since there's so many good ball strikers in the world, men need a good short game to make it to the highest level. For women, you can survive just being a great ball striker since that competition isn't as much

Ya that's a good point....

That's interesting. Any ideas on what it is for the non-physical sports? I read a study comparing eyesight of men and women and though woman appeared to perceive more shades of colour, men won on tracking fast moving objects, discerning details from a distance, and absolute chromatic sensitivity. The key factor being that testosterone gives men 25% more neurons area of the brain controlling these abilities when born - quite significant. And hand-eye coordination is usually important for physical activities.

The Indian boys U-14 team (Or maybe it was U-13, can't remember), beat the US Women's first team a few years ago. The US Women are #1 ranked, and India is absolutely terrible in world football. Not to mention Indians in general are skinnier and less athletic than many other.

Also if I remember correctly, the match wasn't even close

A top 15-16 year old team would absolutely demolish the US Women's first team
