Better have game to back up your style

Never bothered to mind what other people say about what anyone wears. What makes someone the arbiter of style...and what does that have to do with golf? Wear what makes you feel comfortable out there. The game itself is hard enough. Don't add worrying about what others think of what you wear to the mix.

I will never understand that either.

Wear what you like. If you don't like it, don't wear it.

What your cap is should have ZERO to do with your fashion choice. I'm horrible at racquetball. Does that mean I can ONLY play in a white cotton T-shirt and unlogo'd shorts and shoes?

TW doesn't have the game right now to wear anything from his line of clothing. Does he still "get" to wear TW branded clothes while he's out there, or is he a poser until he gets his game back?

Completely agree with this thread. Never understood why people care what others are wearing, or playing, or what bag they are carrying for that matter too. What someone does is their own business.

I've never understood that either. The way I look at it is this: I'm going to dress nice on the golf course every time I play- that way even if my game isn't on that day then I will at least give the illusion that it is to those who aren't playing with me.

I love golf clothes, shoes, and nice clubs. I don't see why I should dress like a hobo and swing a walmart club just because I'm learning.

I mostly hear this sentiment on forums, though. At least no one's ever said a thing about it around me in person. Could be because I'm a woman, and that's not obvious online.

I have to agree. I wear bright clothes throughout my life (I'm a college professor, so I can wear whatever I want to work). I'm certainly not going to stop when I go to the golf course, and whether I'm having a good day on the course or not - who cares. It extends to my choice in golf equipment too (lime green bag, orange and pink tees, yellow golf balls).

It doesn't mean you have to be good to dress nicely.

Agree but many in this thread don't http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1301666-how-to-dress/

"Gotta justify the pants" is something I say to myself to get myself going. The reality is: No one cares.

I first started wearing "funny" golf pants to honor my friend who always wore stuff like that. Loudmouth was one of his favorite brands. He always tried to have fun with his clothes, because, as he once told me, it reminded him to have fun on the course. He just didn't care what anyone thought of his outfits, HE enjoyed wearing them. If it made people laugh, well, at least they were laughing.

Miss that guy. Taught me a lot about golf, and life.

OP .... sounds like the people you've been listening to or reading from are real tools. It's their problem, not yours. Dressing nice is appropriate in all settings.

I'm not one to care at all what people think or say. I'm 28 years old, dark skinned, into fashion and have a pompadour cut for crying out loud. I sing to my own tune both in a fashion sense and pretty much everything else. I've got a wife that loves it and two beautiful little girls that think I'm cool and theirs are the only opinions that matter. But I find it very intriguing (on here) the amount of "they should be thrown off the course" "tour poser" "pee sitting down", etc that goes around. I belong to a country club and even the old timers seem to enjoy the modern "flavor" but here it's like "get off my lawn!"

i think the difference between your clubs attitude, and the attitude of say, this entire forum, may be a more broad spectrum of people. while your club may be diverse in the people that belong to it, regionally they're still very similar. i'm assuming by your avatar, you're from the northeast (if not, my apologies)? Where there is a certain mindset that many people tend to share, that would be quite different from those who are from the midwest or southeast, not saying any one view is right or wrong, but that could lead to the differences and attitudes on here.

but to actually answer your post, i too think it's dumb to have to qualify your style with an accompanying handicap. i personally find golf fashion nearly as interesting as the equipment side, and enjoy seeing new styles and designs that companies try to bring to the course, regardless of skill level.

Yes indeed. I live in south central pa right on the mason Dixon line by way of NYC. Not a very diverse area but certainly more open minded than most I'd say.

Let's face it, there are plenty of judgemental golfers. Forums just give us an opportunity to read what these internet warriors really think. There are numerous threads about staff bags, white belts, blades, playing from the tips etc where some golfers seem to think "you better be scratch to do that".

People can be insecure. some men dress down on the course--they have one pair of pants they wear, one pair of shoes (which they don't take care of), and seeing someone who looks good makes them insecure. So the default is "i'm better at golf than you". It can make them feel better about themselves.

see how that works?

your assumption (with no basis for the statement) is as bad as the golfers who assume dressing nice is a poser move.

Last year Penn National and this year Waynesboro country club. If you're familiar with the Waynesboro, Chambersburg, Greencastle Area. Home course is in Greencastle but I'm a member at the country club for the family stuff.
