Chicago Area Fitters

Anyone able to provide a recommendation from their experiences from Chicago area fitters? Thinking of some new woods granted I could get a noticeable performance difference. Of most interest are Titleist, Ping and Callaway.

The three fitters I can think of that offer a good range of heads and shafts are Club Champion, Green Grass, and Cool Clubs. I'm leaning towards Green Grass since it is outdoors, and I'd be able to see the ball flight, along with the Trackman data, but I'm not sure how his offerings are.

Thanks in advance.

I was totally against indoor fittings but went to Club Champion in Willowbrook last year for a variety of reasons over the outdoor guys. I was rather closed minded going into the process because it was inside. Within a few shots I was pretty convinced that indoor/outdoor doesn't matter as I was seeing trackman give me the numbers and flights I'm used to seeing outside. The only real change I made to anything were the shafts in my driver, 3w and hybrid. I've gotten really good at fitting myself over the years and nothing improved my current irons. The shafts I had in my woods were close but I picked up some yards and accuracy with the change and when I took the new shafts outside I saw the same feedback I was getting inside with trackman.

Make a few phone calls, talk and ask questions and go with the place you feel the best about after that, but don't totally rule out an indoor fitting as I can tell you from experience that with a good fitter they can really simulate what you see outside.

I was very please with Cool Clubs in Highland Park. I got fit for a driver early last season, and it's been working quite well.

    Hi Arg -

Would you know if Dennis is still at Cool Clubs? He did irons for me a few years back that I love.

Not sure. I had my fitting with Dennis in March 2015, but we're a year later.

Not sure if Dennis is still there, but I always feel compelled to defend him. He's caught a lot of flack on the board at times, but he fit me when he was at club champion and the clubs I bought are the only ones still in my bag. He wasn't all joking and friendly, but he was **** sure effective. I speak highly of the experience.

Second what you said. Went in for a complete bag fitting and at the time he only recommended new irons as he couldn't beat my driver/fairway setup. I've gone back to CC for woods since then, and have never been as happy as I was with the irons he built for me.

Miles of Golf is a 2 hour 45 minute drive. As you will find in a lot of threads here they get great reviews and is trackman/ outdoor. Probably further than you want to drive just throwing it out there.

Used Club Champion downtown (on Ohio) and was pleased with the experience. Did a driver fitting, got the specs they recommended, and made my purchase elsewhere.

Hey guys, have lurked for a long time mostly because I don't usually have much to add by the time I get chance to see a topic.

I recently stopped by Cool Clubs in Deerfield to talk to them about going through my bag. Dennis was t there and I can agree with others above. While he wasn't a chatty Cathy, he was happy to spend some time with me and answer my questions.

He did say he was getting ready to move a little further south from the current location to a more golf comprehensive facility with more amenities at his disposal. He indicated he expected it would put him out of commission until early June. Just an FYI if anyone was thinking about CC.

Anybody here have any experience with the Mistwood Performance Center in Romeoville? Seems like a really nice facility and looks like they have outdoor with trackman. I've narrowed it down to going to them or Club Champion (Willowbrook...?)

Did you go for your fitting yet? Like the idea of mistwood being outside but can not find any reviews yet.

Are there any area fitters that do a comprehensive "full bag" fitting that is less expensive than Club Champion?

I highly recommend EJ over at Catigny. He did a driver shaft fitting for me back in the day and he was spot on. Had my best driving seasons with that setup. Time, $$, and family has prevented me from going back at the moment. I believe his shop used to be in Willowbrook where Club Champion is now. He is strictly by appt these days through email or phone.

Tried to schedule a fitting with mistwood for a week or two. Could never get a hold of somebody through email or phone, always got an answering machine. They were not very timely returning my messages either. Took my money elsewhere.

Wait until the winter- they usually discount fittings during the winter.

I had the same experience. They are very bad with that. Disappointed because they are close to home.

I went with EJ at Cantigny. Fitting was for irons and was able to hit anything I wanted. It seemed that he let me drive the fitting more then I liked. Also we never made it outside to hit balls like I would have wanted.

Not sure where I will go for my next fitting, But will probably give club champion a try.

Gonna bring this back from the beyond dead... Anyone have any reviews about Mistwood's fittings after ~4 years? Looking to get a full bag fitting and Mistwood would be the ideal choice at first glance (plus they're always at the Golf Show in February) but I'll look elsewhere like Club Champion if past experiences aren't the best.

At least give Mark Clavey at call at Chicago Bills Driving Range. Nobody has been doing longer & he will not up-sell you into something you don’t need.

I used to be in the golf industry and I can honestly say it's a 50/50 shot on if you will receive a good fitting. There would be times I would talk to the fitters from Club Champ, Cantigny, Clavey, etc and they wouldn't understand half the concepts I would talk about when it came to fitting (gear effect on impact location). It was quite appalling honestly. There are a few fitters in the area that understand a proper fitting session, but it seems to be rare. If I didn't fit myself then I would go to Dave Erickson at St. Andrews. The range is spectacular and he will go over every detail with you to ensure the club is performing to the best of its capabilities. If you have any questions feel free to DM me for more info.

I’m going to revive this one again!

I’m trying to get fit for a driver and am considering some of these recommendations. Specifically Dave Erickson at St. Andrews, Mark from green grass fitting and Chris from Mistwood performance center. I’ve been fit for irons at Golftec and wasn’t that impressed.

@The-Hawk Does Dave Erickson use a trackman or something similar for his outdoor fittings?

I wish someone had a report to give from getting fit at Mistwood!
