Bobby Jones's autobiography Down the Fairway would get my vote. Although written in 1927 still relevant and a great read today

As a teenager I borrowed my dad's copy of Golf My Way and it really set me on the right path in this game. I thoroughly enjoyed Golf In The Kingdom. Been a while since I last read it so I may have to give it a go again. Finally, Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect had an impact as well when I was playing more tourney golf a decade or so ago.

I'm curious. I haven't read Golf My Way but I have watched some of Jack's instructional videos. Do you play all your clubs off the left instep(if you are righty)? I know some of his ideas go a little against the grain with some of the more traditional instructional stuff.

Not any more, but I still incorporate many of his ideas. While the swing has evolved, there is a bunch on the mental game and short game I find still valid.

Some of the Davis Love books are quite good. I have a hard time with Jack's instructions. I really enjoyed Feinstien's book, Spoiled.

Is Missing Links the one where the protagonist plants the butt end of a rake into the bunker during the climactic scene? And the cups at the local muni are described as mini volcanos?

I also forgot I have all of Penick's books. I learned a lot from them, but he taught a different swing from what I use for the most part.

I didn't see it mentioned yet, so "Dream Golf" is a fun read. The story of how Bandon Dunes was made.

Of the 8 books I picked up, Tommy Armour"s Golf MY Way, is a great book, and my son grabbed it from me immediately. What a timeless classic.

Anything by Ben Hogan, Tiger woods, or Harvey Penick

Well, I now have a decent golf library! I am currently reading a round of golf with Tommy Armour, and I must say the classics are brilliant. Now I know why Harvey Penick mentioned him so much, what a golfing mind he is, very analytical. I plan on getting all of his books.

Tiger Woods "how i play golf" is my favorite book. Although I would omit the part where he tells you snap your left leg for more distance. You can probably understand why.
  • platgofplatgof platgof ClubWRX Posts: 1,449 ClubWRX
Just finished John Redman, a rather long book. I really like it a lot, and he teaches Percy Boomer in a way you can understand it. I really struggled at first trying to develop a lower turn, but now I know it was completely necessary to shoot lower scores. John Redman played the mini tours in Florida, many years ago, with my swing coach, Jim Schacht.

Another fan of "Golf is Not a Game of Perfect" by Rotella. I feel like any time my game gets in a funk I can pick this up, read a chapter or two and find SOMETHING that will help get me back on track.

-Golfer's Guide to Mental Fitness (John Weir)

-The Art of Scoring (Stan Utley)

-Power Golf (Ben Hogan) - I have an old copy of the book so the real photos of Ben alone make it awesome

-Groove Your Swing My Way (Lee Trevino) - Hard to find but Lee offers incredible insight into his swing...The man is a genius (Duh!)

-The 40 Toughest Shots in Golf (Todd Sones)

-Stack and Tilt Book (Plummer and Bennett) - Even if you don't subscribe to the pattern, it is incredibly well written and some of the ideas presented have really helped my game

-The Wedge Book (Doug Ford) - IMO ahead of its time with regards to the short game. Oldie but goodie

    -All of Rotella's books

Awesome thread! I'm a golf book nerd and could go on forever!!! 100 golf books and counting image/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
