When a driver doesn't work IMO in the majority of cases its the shaft not fitting the player or head properly.

The comp 460 is a very good club, high , long and dumb easy to hit but I too did not get along with that head on my favorite Axiv shaft.

Other options I highly reccomend:

-Nike DFI+ 460cc ( Only Drawback is its High C.O.R )

-R5TP 440cc or R7XR 440cc

-Callaway ERC HOT 460cc ( extremely hot face )

For some reason I don't hit the 460's as well as the 400ish size driver heads.. not sure why and over time my swing will grow sloppy with the bigger head and I notice this most when I switch to a small headed driver.

If you havent messed with the shaft I suggest you do so before buying another club.

Interesting observation. I, too, hit the 390cc-420cc heads better. Why is that? Physics should tell you that the opposite should occur. I don't even find the 460cc heads visually unappealing.

STOP THE PRESSES. The search is over (for now).

So, there I was with Joe Kwok at Golfmart looking for a new putter grip. I walk by the drivers, and the next thing you know, a TM R5N with a Speeder 757 is in my hands. Then, there I was hitting balls at the launch monitor. Then somehow this new driver makes its way into my trunk, where it finds its way into Joe' shop. Before you know it, it has a new Fujikura Rombax opalescent green shaft in it.

This story ends with me hitting straight bombs to the back of the range.

The R5/Rombax combo is tight. The Rombax launches a high, flat, low spin ball, which is exactly what I was looking for. I was really surprised with the R5. Feels almost as good as the R510, with unmatched forgiveness. The Comp is heading east to my brother.

If I have a new driver this year, you can call me a ho.

Any updates Bennet? 460cc search over? I love my Comp, but I have to say I have an R5n in Joes hands right now getting the latest and greatest super sonic Fujikura 671 shaft installed.

Even though I love the Comp I had to try the R5.

The Fuji 671 is my all-time favorite shaft. I had one in a Comp that I just gave to my brother.

Anyway, for me, the R5 is slightly more forgiving than the Comp, and I prefer the metallic "thwack" feel to the composite "thunk." As proof, I prefer the 460 Launcher to the Comp. BUT, when nutted, the Comp is the longest hitting driver that I have ever played.

No votes for any of the high end components? I've been using a KZG 395 and this thing is as long or longer than my non-conforming R510. I'd look at the 460 Nak or the 460 Gemini too. Tha way you don't have to junk the stock shaft.

That being said, I've hit the comp and the G2 and they're both so easy to hit. Shaft would make the difference for me. I could play either of those heads.

Great question....and I would like all the guys recommending different shafts to chime in on this question..

I have a 580XD 10.5 with Fuji Tour Series 60 (the best shaft I have ever hit for my swing)...

While I always tinker and try to find other drivers...tried the R5 N in that shaft and it was no where near the same.....

What about that shaft in a Cleveland Comp 10.5??

Cleveland would not tell me the weight of the head...

I do not like the G2 or current titleist drivers...

Would prefer to try this shaft in Cleveland Comp then spend the money for the R5 TP....with same results as regular R5...

Any one tried the MP001 460, I treid the smaller head sizes and it's long and straight?

I'm currently experimenting with the MP001/460 and the Ignite 460. So far I've been pleasantly surprised with the Mizuno. I haven't read many reviews on it and with everyone jumping on the G2 and Cleveland bandwagon, I think the Mizuno is a highly underated club. It's definitely long, and very solid. I'm just waiting for a FT-3 to test out against the MP and Ignite to possibly make the switch to a bigger head.

I agree with you on this subject.

Don't know why, but Mizuno Mp001 Comp 400 or 460cc drivers don't get any kind of tour usage and therefore are not appreciated enough by us golf freaks.

I own both the Cleveland Comp, Miuzno Mp001 comp 400cc, Mizuno Mp001 Comp 460cc, Ping G2 and the Titleist 905T and I really dpnt think the Mizuno Mp001 drivers are inferior in ANY WAY AT ALL to the other driver brands - NOT IN ANY WAY !

The Mizuno Mp001 460 comp to me is one hell of a great driver.

I hit it longer than my Ping G2 and Cleveland Comp, but not quite as long as my Titleist 905T. The 460 head on the Mp001 to me seems a bit more forgivng than the 400cc head on Mp001 - but they are very close in forgiveness.

Owing quite a lot of the new drivers I must conclude that they are all excellent, forgiving and LONG as hell. I see no reason why the Mizuno Mp001 line of driver are not on top of all "driver-wish lists" along with the other great brands.

I bought the old Mizuno Mp001 400cc because it was on sale and I wanted to try it and compare to the newer Mizuno Mp001 460cc - and the old smaller head is just as great working as the new one :vava:

Keep me posted Pitbull, I'm thinking about doing the same (trying the MP001) I remember hitting the MP001 400 at a demo day once, killing it long and straight with a NV extreme and walked away and never thought about it much after that.

Needless to say I've had this itch in the back of my mind ever since that needs to be scratched :vava:

Claus, Thanks, I read your other thread.. I think I'll hold for a while till the new one comes out (or will I pick up a cheap MP001 460 in the impending sales, who knows ??)

BTW: I don't know anybody who uses the MP001, nobody I say.... that's sad.

I too pay the KZG Gemini 395cc driver (Grafalloy Shaft). This thing rules! I work at a driving range and always hand it to people to try and they are blown away at the length, it goes past all the drivers that pay for a lot of advertising in the mags...

Try the Gemini and you won't be disappointed.
