it goes to show how much of a fine line golf is. Players that are on the leaderboards week in week out can loose there way.

Not saying that this has happened, Being a father is very important, and I am sure he is financially sound to do this, but I love watching Mahan play and I really hope he gets back to where he was, when he can.

he should have won that US Open at Bethpage. Flew an 8 iron into the bottom of the flagstick mid back nine and it flew back to the front of the green. 3 putted instead of tap in birdie and never made it up.

Hunter is the man. I had the privilege to me him a couple years back. thoroughly impressed with his character.

Sean Foley, that is what happened... Steady decline. Went from ballstriking machine to just average trying to stack and swing left..

2013 he was 67%/68% and 27th in SG-T2G

2014 dropped to 75th in T2G

2015 fell off earth ranking 131st in GIR, 107 in FIR and 140th in T2G

2016 just when you think it couldn't get worse.. 135th, 166th and 185th in SG-T2G

With Hunter's destruction, Tiger's debacle starting early 2014, and Westwood lasting like 6 weeks with Sean, and a former student who twitter blasted Tiger to leave him asap, I am in shock he has any students at all. Rose is his ONLY saving grace and a big one at that as Justin is considered a top striker. But from past trends, I'd expect Rose to start his quick decline about now...

now in his mid 30s, married with kids, multi multi millionaire and probably burnt out from never really breaking through as a world #1 type player when he was right on the brink of it.

As others have said 2 kids doesn't help but I think his decline started around the time he flubbed that chip in the Ryder Cup against G Mac? Not that I can remember what year that was.

Life happened.

Good marriage, couple of kids, big house and plenty of money. I remember a year or two ago, seeing him on TV. He wasn't swinging it as good as he was and he looked out of shape compared to what he had been. One of the biggest surprises I had at the Masters this year was seeing him warming up on Monday on the Range but he only managed to get in because of a decent finish last year.

Seems that some years ago someone pissed in your corn flakes ..... Was that person a 6th grader per chance ??

It's a combination of everything listed above, except the teeth. Fatherhood, age, different priorities, a different perspective, plus golf is a fleeting game. Look at James Hahn...missed 8 cuts and then wins last week. It can easily go the other way as well. I suspect he is and will be just fine.

Best post here ^^^. Absolutely the foley affect. I'm still shocked that any sane person would listen to a skinny jean wearing hipster for swing advice. He could go down in golf history as ruining more good swings than any other instructor.

So the guys that don't like Foley explain it this way. "He got Rose and Mahan to the point where there were amongst the best ball strikers but then those same teachings make them fall off the map" Can someone please explain the logic?

They teach it in the same class they teach the difference between there, they're and their.

Anyway back on topic, yes Mahan's demise is probably a combo of life and Foley who, as far as I can tell, is a pompous fraud.

Maybe those hosel-huggers finally got into his head? I know they have a permanent spot to visit in mine.....

Foley is the same guy that said balls make a sound at impact due to air coming out of them ... WTF
