heaviest conventional looking putter?

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions?

I'd like some more weight in the head of my putter, but at the same time I don't like to look at a big, complex head.

A heavy blade style putter, for example?

Cleveland Classic mid heads weighed in at 400 grams...

Odyssey mid heads usually weigh in at 385 grams

Of course, you could spend lots of money on a custom and they'd make any weight you want. You could also customize an existing head with heavy weights, either permanently installed or a head with removable weights like some of the Scotty's

I'd look at belly putter heads if I were you. Those were pretty heavy while still having similar lie angles. Long putter heads were usually heavy but had much more upright lie angles.

Good luck in your search.

Ah thanks, didn't know Scotty had changeable weight options. Turns out my del mar model can be changed. Right now there are a pair of 15 grams in there. Any ideas whats a good amount to move up to....30 grams/apiece?

How much weight works for you is strictly personal preference and is usually based on playing length and grip shape/weight.

Best to get some lead tape, apply it temporarily to the sole in 10 gram increments until things work well on the practice green, then remove it and buy & install weights that give you the same increase.

boccieri heavy putter?

That's likely the heaviest off the rack offering. There's a lot of weight in the shaft too.

Might as well putt with a sledgehammer, IMHO

Only problem with a sledgehammer is that it is nonconforming. The depth is wider than the face. But it is ambidextrous.

Just turn it 90 degrees. Now the face is wider than the depth, and still ambidextrous!

I have a Yes!! Pippi mid that I cut down to 35" and put a SS 1.0 on it. It's head is 400 grams I believe I like the feel of the heavier putter and it has the classic blade look. It is center shafted and I have rolled the ball better with it than most blade putters I have used in the past. I might would part with it for the right trade or price.

A nickel weighs 5 grams. Get yourself a few nickels and some scotch tape. Keep taping them to the sole of the putter until it feels right to you and you will know how much weight to add.

For me, this was much easier than fussing around with lead tape (unless you wanted to use it on-course).

Most belly putters were heavier, like 400 grams. With the rules change you can pick them up for a song, cut them down, and throw 100 grams counter weight (or whatever you want) and have a nice club to try. I did this with a Cleveland, it is the anser style and putts great... Hangs out in the closet just fine too as 400 grams really is a heavy feeling putter:)

3400? I didn't realize. Anyway this is my first Scotty and first time desiring a heavier putter. Maybe because I'm mostly on slower Bermuda these days. Btw I have a pair of 25 grams on order o replace the 15's in there.
