Question about iron shaft...PLEASE???

Just compared the TM LT2's and the TM CB's in a launch monitor and I need some input as the kid at the store knew beans about the results.

LT2: Stock True Temper 110 gram shaft in a stiff flex. 6 iron between 193-202 yds and ball speed was, if I can recall correctly, in the mid-high 120's. Only problem, everything was going severely left....not hooking, just a really exagerated draw. I liked the distance, but it seemed to lack control.

CB's: True Temper Dynamic Gold X100. 6 iron about 180-190, similar ball speed. No wild draw. Perfect ball flight with a very very slight draw....this set seemed much easier to control.

At first, I made some slight swing changes to grip, stance, ball position, etc. with the LT's and no matter what I did, all shot went left of target line.

Could it be that the X100's are suited more to my swing? I need some input as I will be selling one of my sets (LT2's or CB's) and would like to know which will fit my game and swing the best. Thanks to all!

Really, the Launch Monitor session is the beginning of the club fitting process.

But to try to give you some helpful information from your session, you are seeing that you can get higher ball speed from more flexible shafts, but you also get wider dispersion.

On the course you may be able to control the Stiff flex shafts, but when you really let it out you would be seeing the ball go off line too much.

The X-flex shafts is where I would start the fitting process with you.

You have the club head speed.

You hit the ball much straighter with the X-flex.

As long as you hit the ball high enough then you will be fine. Since ball height will determine if you are able to use those long irons and stop the ball on the green.

Your main goal with the irons is control, not distance.

What good is hitting a 5 iron 220 yds, if you can't hit the green with it?

Much better to use a 4 or 3 iron from that distance knowing the ball direction is under you control. Remember you have to be hitting that 4 or 3 iron as high as you are hitting the 5 iron to be able to control the shot final distance.
