BestGrips Microperfs - A 2 Year Follow Up Review

Recommended Posts

So I've been almost 2 years now with my BestGrips Microperf club grips and I can honestly say that they may be the best golf related purchase I've ever made. I posted my initial thoughts about the grips and gave them a pretty glowing review then. Now, almost 2 years later, I think I like them even more than I did then. It has been one long honeymoon!

The most remarkable thing about Microperf grips is how durable they've been. I've had them on at least 4 sets of irons in the span of 2 years and they still look and perform as they did when they were brand new! Blowing them on and off of clubs is a breeze and they're as tacky now as ever. They've withstood the Houston heat and humidity better than anything that I used previously.

I've uploaded an image here so that you folks can see for yourselves how durable they are! The picture below is my 7 iron grip after 22 months or so of consistent use (we can play all through the winter here in Houston!). If I had to guess, I'd say the grips probably have 125-150ish rounds on them or so and are still going strong!

For those of you looking for new grips, head on over to bestgrips.com and give them a shot. You're going to spend a bit more up front than you normally would, but the durability and longevity of the grips will far exceed the initial cost. I can't speak highly enough of them!

Thanks for the review!

This is the problem I had, felt like a mid+ size grip. I wear a cadet small glove and couldn't keep my right hand on top. Does anyone happen to know if GripMaster wraps play true to size or if they're larger too.

How much tape did you use to install? I just installed some tape less grips for a customer on Thursday.

Standard one layer of tape. They feel like a midsize grip to me. I wear a Cadet large or ML glove.

I have the micro perf on 2 wedges. Love the feel and tackiness, just wish they were smaller.

I really wish they would go back to making a wrap grip. Quite honestly, they feel better and I can't stand stitchbacks. Or, at least make them like the old Lamkin stitchies where the seam is on the inside so that you only feel the leather and not the string.

I've tried the Bestgrips, Gripmasters, and even old Neumanns with underlistings. While the Neumanns were the tackiest, I have found that the modern wraps offer the best feel. The stitchbacks, even with ProTack, don't offer the same slip resistance in warm and humid conditions.

I also wish Best Grips would go back to offering their "D" underlistings for sale.

You mentioned they were really tacky, do you play with a glove?

How would you describe the firmness?

I actually do still play with a glove. It's something that I've grown accustomed to over the years so playing without a glove just feels awkward to me.

With that being said, the grips are plenty tacky enough to play without a glove. There have been a couple of instances where I forgot a glove when heading to the range and I didn't have a problem at all going through a range session gloveless.

Interesting about the wraps. I played wraps for years and could very well make wraps now, but the stitched grip is a superior grip. I wouldn't even dream of switching back.

I'm glad that you are satisfied with the stitchbacks. And, to your credit, yours are better than Gripmasters by a long while. But I will take a wrap over stichbacks any day. The exception being the old Lamkins, and those only on putters.

If you CAN make wraps, you could be adding to your revenue stream, as I will not go out of my way to purchase any more stitchbacks.

I love leather grips. But more to the point: I LOVE leather wraps.

I too would love a leather wrap. My other issue besides sizing about stitchbacks is that using an interlocking grip it wore my right pinky finger raw so I can see how a hidden stitch 'Lamkin style' might work better for that but wraps are $$$.

So are you guys saying you install right on the metal shaft, or just no double sided tape?

With these grips it's absolutely possible to install them with no tape underneath and without fear of the grip moving around on the shaft.

I remember reading somewhere that the material in the underlisting is designed to stick to metal, but was concerned about a potential sharp edge on the end of the shaft where it had been butt cut?

Place some tape about .5 inches from the butt to wrap it.

So do most people go whole hog when they buy these or just get 2 or 3 and give them a try first? If the latter, which clUbs dos you do the trial run on?

Because of the heat, and slippage from regular grips, and the fact I'd prefer not to wear a glove that gets wet, I first blew them on irons and wedges, and later may go to other non-adjustable clubs.

get one or two - put one on your most favourite practice club, say your 7 or 8 iron probably.

Go out in the heat and humidity and practice.

If your hands/grip get really sweaty you can just dunk the grip in water and shake off excess water and carry on.

Then buy the rest for all your other clubs once you realise plastic sucks.

And throw away your gloves because you realise you don't need to bother with them, and get a nice even hand tan.

This worked for me in very hot and humid Bangkok. :swoon:

I bought 14 customs my first go. They didn't last more than 2 months before I blew them off and sold them. Nice grip, but they will only sell what they will play, which doesn't fit everyone. If they ever go to a regular taper, or at least try to simulate a wrap with their panels (they said they would try a while ago, never did) then I'd look hard at going back.

I installed the Micro Perfs on the irons last week. I use 2 wraps (1/32), and they fit just like other grips - good fit. From some of these comments, I would have expected them to be midsize, but no, just right. I've had my hands measured several times, always 1/32. Maybe some here have smaller hands or are fit into grips like the old Tour Velvet that were small to begin.

Just to clarify for some readers, when people are using air for install, and mention tape, they are (or should be) using masking tape, not double stick tape. So there is no issue blowing the grips off again.

I tried a Grip Master. It has some kind of tacky stuff impregnated into it. And the stuff comes off onto my hands if I make several swings in a row with one club. It's black, like the grip. Does this happen with Best Grips?
