Last month, we announced that Lamkin Z5 Golf Grip Testing was coming to GolfWRX. We wanted to know what grips they were playing, and what they were looking for from a grip. Many applied, but only 5 could be picked. Here they are:

pearls24

Team Ping

mtex22

DNice26

tmgolf25

With that, let's start the thread. The members will chime in with what they're playing, received and their results.

Ok 1 round on the grips complete and very impressed. I have tried Lamkin grips in the past (3 gen and UTX) and to me initially they felt good and tacky but were a little slippery at times and had some play in them. They did get better to me in the UTX Cord line. To me I like a grip to have traction/firm in the left hand and softer (still firm) in the right hand. This Z5 grip accomplishes that. I can tell by one round this grip will be durable and last. Great traction but no play or give. It been pretty dry here in San Diego so I will let another tester talk about how they perform in wet or humid weather. I am a long time New Decade user and have no problems gaming these or switching to these. Pus they look sweet (see pics above)

My next step is to shaft up a driver and a wood with these. I think they would be awesome on a driver!

Thanks Lamkin you have a winner here!

I'll be interested to see how they hold up in humidity. I played in a 4 day tournament in Las Vegas last week and one day it was 109 with 45% humidity. I was toweling the grips every shot.

Mine just got delivered! Need to get them shafted up and do a proper review. Will post back as soon as I can. Really like the way the grips look/feel. Worried they may be a little too soft for my liking but won't know until I get them on the clubs and start playing with them. Currently playing GP Z Grip Cords.

These look interesting. Lamkin have always felt small to me...are these similar to their typical size?

I'd like to know this as well. I want to order some, but not sure which size yet.

With the exception of the Crossline Cord, Lamin grips always start out great, but never last. Hope this is different.

Hey guys! I'm one of the few lucky SOBs that got to try these new Lamkin Z5 grips out. I received mine this past Wednesday 10th and only got them installed yesterday. They sent me the black color.

First, a bit about me:

Age: 36, married with a 2yr old

Handicap: 1 and try and play some competitive Am events.

Right handed and tend to play a high draw.

Grips I usually play: GP Z cord grips.

Initial thoughts on the Z5:

I've only had one half range session and hit a few shots on course.

Aesthetics: I was sent the black ones and they seem pretty nice visually. Pretty modern design with the two tone appearance. I don't love any white in my grips but I'm thinking this is more of a marketing idea than anything else, as the backdrop white with the brand name is easier to identify. I think grey at the bottom of the grip would have been pretty sweet. I'd give the looks an 8/10.

Feel: I installed mine logo up so that I could give a full review on the intended purpose of the grips. The feel was a bit foreign to me at first with the thumb lock section and the right hand lower portion of the grip is very silky in feel. The bottom portion bother me more than the thumb lock portion. I'm not used to a silky feel for my right hand, but after a few shots, it didn't really bother me much. I'd give the feel, across zones a general score of 9/10 as I like the out of the box thinking

Performance: Given my fairly limited experience so far with them, I would say they are solid. I'm liking the cord for the left hand and the thumb reminder....sort of acts like a reverse rib grip, as it provides a spot for your thumb to sit. I only installed mine on my 4-PW and my hybrid, as I was given 8 grips. So I won't have a wedge review for everyone (sorry)....and therefore likely can't comment much on the lower portion of the grip.

I will chime in more once I get some additional rounds in. I also installed mine on some new Oban 115CT steel shafts.

Thanks to WRX for this awesome experience! I was only able to get one installed last night before I practiced today. My first though: Man these feel good. They are a good combination of cord and soft. The only other Lamkin I've used before were Crosslines and the z5 blows them out of the water. Hopefully I'm able to get them all installed for my round on Monday. But overall my first impression is very good!

Any comparisons between these and NDMCs from any of the testers?

I would say these are a little bit softer than NDMCs, but for me that is better. It was hot and humid today and I had no problem at all with slipping.

I agree, they are softer, specifically with your right hand/zone 4 & 5 on the club. The left hand feels really no different to me, as it is cord.

The lamkin ace 3gen is the best grips to help eliminate vibration (joint pain). For anyone with z5 insight, how do they compare with ace 3gen?

Pretty sure these are made with the same material just like the uTX's were.

Anybody notice a stronger odor from the Z5 grips than other grips like the NDMC grips from golf pride?

I have not noticed this. Guess I could give them a good sniff this afternoon...ha.

These grips are growing on me....I like the left hand thumb lock concept actually. It seems to act like a reverse reminder for me. It would be interesting if they made this grip with a rib, then you'd have a reminder for your lower four fingers and one for the thumb position.....top hand would be set then it seems...

I'm curious to know what you think of them. I'm a big UTx fan and almost just bought these for my annual regrip but went with the ole trusty instead because Lamkin had them for $3.49 a pop.

I just got a few of these in yesterday, will be installing on a fairway wood and a driving iron that had NDMCs.

First impression, they are not as firm as the NDMC and have less cord in the "cord half" than UTx grips. They feel nice but it's untested in high humidity and I'm a bit bummed that the thumb zone is only one-sided, so you can't really play the grip logo down as it was designed.

First range session and I'm pretty impressed with these grips so far (only on driver). It was fairly warm (high 80's) and didn't seem to have any slippage issues. I had a Utx on my driver last year but switched to GP Z Grip cords this year. I feel like these may last a bit longer then the Z Grip but time will tell. Will report back after more testing.

How do they do in heat with sweaty hands? I can only play cords because of this but I'll be interested

I played golf with mine yesterday for a full round and I must say they are growing on me. Yesterday wasn't too humid, but I don't think they would be too much trouble in severe humidity. This past Saturday I used the one on my hybrid in extreme heat and humidity and I didn't seem to have an issue. Like I mentioned above, I'm traditionally a cord guy myself.....but I'm enjoying these. I may throw one on one of my wedges to see what they are like when manipulating the club face. So far so good!
