I find it all entertaining, and the main reason kids today are lazy as can be........Nobody has energy, especially my kids, to get out and do something......My kid could play D1 baseball at a big school, if he'd forget about trying to hack into other peoples computers....lol

Bingo. This Place is as much drama as I can get away with. I'd be a raving lunatic on book of faces or instachat if I had to read and reply to some of these fringe political propaganda spewers. ( both fringes ). Not to mention how much darker my outlook on humanity would be if I actually read their thoughts. I'd be stock piling nato rounds not golf balls. So it's better for my mindset that I don't.

And calling this place social media is like calling my kids big wheel a motorcycle. It's really not the same thing.

Don't use any social media, except Golfwrx. Don't intend to use any. I wouldn't have a cell phone, had I not found out the hard way, that pay phones don't exist. (I locked myself out of the house four years ago.) I keep a Tracphone in the car, for an emergency, BUT, keep it shut off.

Anyone needs to get in touch with me, can call the golf course.

Bringing this back to life - who are the best twitter follows these days? More interested in the PGA TOUR/LPGA/Course stuff...not so much on swing tips or product reviews.

No Laying Up guys do good work, same with The Fried Egg...Then there's your Shane Bacon, Jason Sobel, Kyle Porter, Sean Martin, Kevin Van Valkenberg. Anyone else?

No. It’s a sport fan site.

To classify this scocial media in today’s meaning is to say that a piper cub is a space shuttle. Both fly. But both are not the same.

Not to pick a fight and BH I typically feel like I agree with you, but the definition below from Merriam Webster sounds an awful lot like this site. And like it or not social media is how tons of information, news and communication takes place in today's society. It has definitely weathered the "it's a fad" stage of existence - being blanket anti-social media is like saying I would rather wait for the paper tomorrow morning to see scores - no need to learn how to use that new fangled internet...

Also, I have never understood answering "Who knows any good social media follows?" With "I don't have social media". I am genuinely curious what the mindset is behind those posts. As if a random internet stranger cares whether you post food pics to instagram or pictures of your kid on facebook.

Anyways...the Merriam Webster definition of social media:

Forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content

I'm friends with a bunch of ex-students on FB and it is pretty cool seeing pictures of weddings, kids, etc. In the old days you just never knew what ever happened to them, now it's pretty cool seeing my kids all grown up, starting careers, families, etc.

I've never understood the disdain for social media by us older folks. It really is an efficient way to stay connected to people who would otherwise fade away from memory.

But what is it you're really getting from it? Sure it's neat I suppose once in a while to see a picture of an old student, but when you say connected, are you really connected? Do you really ever go and ask them a specific question about how they are doing? Or is it simply, "Joe posted this today"? because if it's the latter, it's not really a connection, it's simply someone talking about themselves and you were among those allowed to read it. There's no connection there. Just a news item in a different form.

but now thanks to that people think you want a Christmas card that reads the same way. And how many of the "friends" you have would really do anything more than type "thoughts and prayers"(which is simply another way of them saying "don't forget about me") if you were to say you were sick or someone in your family is on your deathbed? How many would actually step up and try to do something for you.

The disdain comes from the fact that what a lot of people now think is friendship is nothing more than somewhere between being acquaintances, and "we let the other tell us stuff unsolicited." I'd rather have 5 good friends than any number of Facebook friends.
