Ping iron players - a little help

I5 vs. ISI
Can any of you guys who've played both provide a little input? I'm curious to hear how different these play.

I recently bought a nice used set of ISI-S because I've been kicking myself for letting my first set go in 2001 in favor of a set of x-14 pro series. I actually liked the x-14 pro's quite a bit but to my eye the ISI-S were and still are the best looking iron head made. It's not that I don't like my current set (Cobra 3100's), they are very forgiving, long, and fun to play, but they're ugly and I miss the aesthetics of the ISI-S. I intend to keep the 3100's, but I want a set of Ping irons and the I5 is the first club since the ISI-S that actually appeals to me.

My dilemma is whether I should re-shaft and grip the ISI-S to my liking or get a new set of I5's. The extra dineros notwithstanding, is the I5 really that much better (feel, forgiveness, length, etc.) than the ISI-S?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Go ahead, do yourself a favor, and get the i5's. I used to be hell bent on buying TM OS2 and then tried the G5's, I was amazed how the G5 felt and how the ball flew off the face, I'd spend the extra money. Think of it as an investment, do you want to buy some irons you might have to reshaft tomorrow or do you want to buy some good irons that will give you 5-6 years of play. I mean they are the made buy the same company, it's like saying, "do you want a 10 year old corvette or do you want a new corvette." Both go fast, but the new one has more technology. Go ahead and splurge!!!

...and yes I know you were speaking of the i5, but you get the point. Good luck.

I have demoed the I5's and liked them. I say pull the trigger and get yourself a holiday gift.....the I5's.

I preferred the I5 over all the past Ping irons, i have had Zing 2's and ISI's and i think the I5 is the best of the bunch.( I also have a brand new set in the BST if you are interested in buying., sorry for the plug.)

I have played every Ping iron since the Eye 2. The i5 is seriously the best Ping iron I have ever hit. The feel of the club is very close to forged due to being heat-treated and the thinner walls of the tuning port. As always they are very forgiving and are pleasing to the eye. If you like Pings, which it sounds like you do, you will not be disappointed with the i5's. I traded in a set of Cally X-tour's and I am striking the ball much better. Also about a club longer with the Ping's.

Thanks for the offer, If your I5's are green or white dot I'd definitely be interested.

I have used the ping zings, eye 2's ISI's, ISI Nickel, I3's Blade, I3+Blade, G2's and now the I5's. Yes I know Im a ping ho. Anyways I feel that the I5's are irons that I can still work the ball as well as any iron (including titleist, kzg blades and CB's, TM's and some MacGregor blades I used to have) but there forgiveness is there if you need it. Pure hits do exactly what you want and off center hits will be alot better then you would think watching them from the tee box, fairway, ruff or sand. I personally feel they are a little easier and slightly more forgiving then the ISI's but if you dont need it/want it I say save your money. I personally feel that they are worth it to me with just the little bit of added forgiveness with my 3 iron at 235 out. Take my .02 cents for what its worth but you wont be able to buy mine because they wont be for sale for a long time.

I have owned a bunch of Ping Clubs including the ISI-K and my present set of I5s. To compare these would be a little difficult. The I5s in my opinion are the best set from Ping in a long time. The G2 & G5 are very forgiving but coming from the old selection of pings it is difficult to get used to the WIDE soles and extra bounce in these clubs.

The I5s with reduced offset in shorter irons is amazing for a golfer better than a beginer and who has a swing. They are as forgiving as one would want their clubs to be.The soles on the I5 are good from both fairways and the rough. The smaller headsize gives you great feedback on solid contact.

I would suggest demo-ing this set to see if it works.

Cheers!
