Arccos 360 - (Updated 2.0 Version)

Recommended Posts

Just got an email from Arccos stating by November, they are releasing a newer / updated version of Arccos called Arccos 360.

Anyone else have insight or know if the devices are much smaller than original? I have the original and have issues where the sensor would fall out after hitting certain shots.

Oh, I know its smaller, but half the size? Guess i'll believe it when i see it. Also preorder is $249.99. So whoever was going to buy the version one, preorder version 2, you won't regret it. I love the app / sensors / functionality. I just wish I took the data and improved on it more.

For those not familiar with the item, Arrcos has a beta website with all your stats laid out in a graph chart, ranging from 10-20-30-40-etc rounds. Also has a proximity of green / pin of your shots landing. Very good data for those that want to go into detail of their game.

One suggesting that would be good for the Arccos site is to have a Wizard or some kind of virtual tour pro to give you tips on improving your game. Hmmm.. I think I'll send arccos an email. They took my suggestion on marking the pin location once you are on the green to give an idea of how long your putts are. I'm probably not the only one that mentioned that to them.

Try one wrap of black electrical tape around outside of sensor half on grip, half on sensor works great for keeping them on and tight.

I really love my Arccos but I was hoping for a bit of a discount for owners of the first generation Arccos, enough to pull the trigger on a newer set.

The picture of the 2.0's do look like they have a lower profile, I'd like to see a side by side comparison.

I did try that method and boy was it messy. I even got the non residue tape that supposedly doesn't leave any stuff... It would start leaving some nasty stuff on my clubs / grips. In addition, it would slowly peel off due to the club being pulled in and out of the bag. I've since then gave up on any proper solutions.

The one question their website doesn't answer is if you have to have your phone on / on you in order to record the data?

I've been thinking of switching from Game Golf but not if I need to carry my phone on me.

The black electrical tape I used didn't leave any residue, I'll check out the brand I have when I get home.

It could be related to my grips being too soft. I use pure grips and its tackier than most. Also softer. and lastly, since there is no tape inside, the sensors have a harder time staying in.

You should have your phone on you as it uses the GPS and gives you the correct readouts from your distance on your shots and distance to the green, (front, back, center). Hope that answers your question.

I usually have it in my front pocket. Never gets in the way. (left peg pocket, and I'm a righty).

Really interested to learn how they have improved their shot processing 'algorithm' to get rid of editing.

Big question I have is (and may have picked this up wrongly): I believe the batteries are not replaceable and once they run out of power (after 2 years) then the golfer has to replace the whole sensor at $20/$29 a sensor. I get the feeling most golfers have missed this and will feel duped in 2 years time. However this was only my interpretation of their marketing. Anyone else pick up on this or have the answer?

Where did you see that. I haven't seen anything. A cost like that would equate to $280-$420. I don't think so.

Ah thanks. Unfortunately yeah, try that with a bigger phone (S7 Edge) - just not going to happen.

I am now 99% sure that I am right. I can't remember where I saw the $20 replacement sensor fee after the two years. I assumed they had reduced the size of the sensor by removing the capability to remove the battery.

So on Edwin Watts it says this:

Additional Features of Arccos 360:

  • New software that increases accuracy by up to 90%
  • Permanent battery that's guaranteed for a minimum of two years with no charging

Yeah but in 12-18 months they will have a Version 3.0 and you'll be throwing away your 2.0 stuff way before the batteries run out. Kind of like an iPhone, sure the battery will refuse to take a charge in the three years but who wants to use the same phone for three years anyway?

Wake up. It's the 21st century. Two years is an eternity in consumer electronics. Emphasis on the "consume".

I emailed them and asked about the batteries. They said the batteries are not replaceable. But they will be offering an "opt-in" extended warranty for a small fee that will cover any lost/damaged/dead battery sensors. The details of this opt-in warranty will be shared at a later date.

That's not that bad. I have an Iphone 7 Plus and I barely notice it. I guess it's all about preference. You can leave the phone in the cart as long as its relatively close to your shot. It'll help with tracking a little better.

I have the original system- I've only looked through information briefly are there any new app or dashboard upgrades or is this just solely a better GPS tracker for the club? Would love to see some new bells and whistles in the dashboard. Given all the battery issues I've had and the information above about a 2 year battery warranty there is no way I'd be an early adopter of this new system.

I've had Arccos for over 2 years now, and regrettably it appears they still do not use Google Maps for course mapping. Including my Home course, any newer courses not mapped or updated in Apple Maps will be useless with Arccos. I can still only use Arccos for 9 of the 18 holes on my course because Apple Maps will never update the map for 18 holes, and therefore Arccos cannot update the course map. Pitiful they still rely on Apple Maps for iPhone users.

This is a non-issue for Android users.

Hi BJP1,

I've also noticed what you mention about some courses not be mapped correctly (for me) mostly due to course remodels....like reversing the order of holes or switching the front 9 with the back etc. Arcoss has been wonderful in remapping these for me correctly in every occasion. Have you tried reaching out to them? Their customer service is really good! Best of luck to you!

I was hesitant to pull the trigger on the original version due to some of the known issues, am a little more tempted by the release of this new version. I would not pre-order though, I'd be keen to wait and see whether the new GPS algorithm works as good as they have marketed it to. Reviews of the product will shed light on that in quick time I'd imagine.

Other issues, you couldn't switch from yards to meters, I wonder if that's fixed. Also a worry about the 2 year battery life but it does say "without a charge" so maybe the battery can be charged some how? Probably not likely though.

Guess I'll just wait and see what the early adopters think once they receive them.

They have been excellent on issues within their control. My mapping concern was pertinent to their use of Apple Maps over Google Maps for iOS users. So long as Apple Maps hadn't updated my course map, Arccos would have to wait. However, after 16 months of waiting Apple finally updated my course, and Arccos did almost immediately.

All seems well now!
