Louisiana Baton Rouge Area Golf

Looking to play next Friday on way to Baton Rouge driving from Biloxi. Anyone know course conditions at Carter Plantation, Santa Maria Golf Course, and TPC Louisiana. I have played TPC once in past but didn't know if it was worth going back as buddy hasn't played or one of these other two courses were worth playing.

TIA!

Money Hill, Tchefuncta, & Beau Chene are all private. I play Carter and it's in good shape.

In my humble opinion, TPC Louisiana is no longer an option. There's a racetrack very close to the course and if you aren't in the mood to listen to loud cars and/or motorcycles blaze around the track during your round then probably not the best choice.

Seriously. It's loud. Bring your noise reduction headphones.

Headed back down to BR for the annual pilgrimage. Last year I managed to play English Turn after I dropped the better half off at her sisters and I also played Santa Maria. Have played the Bluffs in years past.

This year, I'm going to try and play Bayou Oaks - South while out that way but what other BR area courses should I consider? Willing to drive 30-40 min if I have to.

What is the LSU course like?

The Island was reasonably dry but windy as heck. Maybe why it was so dry. And then the damn bridge back to town. Yikes. How do the locals do it? Enough for me to never play that course again!

What'd you think of #2?

If I recall 2 was along side the road? Over water/waste area off the tee and then again to the green. I recall hitting one of my best drives of the day there so probably liked it. Don't recall if I went over the second hazard in two to lay up or short to go for the green on my third. I did take 3 to get on, I remember that.

Headed back down in a few weeks for the holiday season. How are things looking these days? I may have a chance to play CC of LA. How's that course? Also this may be the year I bite bullet on LSU just to say I've played it.

I won't play the Island again. Still have nightmares about the traffic on that darn bridge!

Last year I played:

Bayou Oaks - SouthTPCThe IslandCarter PlantationDouble loop of the 9 at Pelican PointHave played in the past, The Bluffs, Santa Maria, English Turn

CCL is one of the top 5 courses in the state IMO, if you have a chance to play it, play it. LSU isn't worth playing anymore, if you want an "LSU" golf experience try getting on at University Club. It's private, but a call from your pro or whatever connection you have at CCL will usually get you on. It's where the LSU golf team practices and plays. It's a nice course but bring your game because it's very difficult. Carter Plantation is probably in the best condition of the courses you've already played. Beaver Creek is one you may want to try if your looking for a new course to play, it's wide open and a really easy course.

If you're interested in driving west to Lafayette let me know and if the time/date works out I would be happy to bring you out to Le Triomphe

So I wound up playing LSU for the first time and Santa Maria for the second time.

I was the only person out there at LSU on a cold and windy day. Overall, not a terrible experience for the $25 they charged me. Walked it. Could have used better signage as I found myself on the wrong box a couple times. Only really soggy hole was 16(?), the one that goes down the side of the road.

Santa Maria was fun again for the second time. Again a colder day. Was with the FIL so took a cart, but all the carts out had no windscreens. That sucked given the chilly day. All the carts out when we returned at 18 had screens. Go figure.

Can anybody tell me what the hell is going on at the Bluffs. I remember playing it years ago when I was still at LSU and being amazed at how nice it was except for 2 holes on the front 9 that were in really rough shape. Since then I have read a bunch of negative reviews and a few months back I saw tee times online for something crazy low like $10 which can’t be a good sign. It would be ashame if they let that course fall apart because it has some serious potential. It also holds the distinct honor of being the only golf course in Louisiana not built on a dead flat piece of land.

My wife's family lives close to there. I played it once a couple years ago and 1-2 holes were closed. Apparently they have a flooding issue when they get a lot of rain and it destroyed a couple holes. The rest of the course was ok but not great. Now when I visit, I either play False River, a 9 hole goat track across the street from where they live or Beaver Creek.
