Titleist 503.H

Gxgolfer

Recommended Posts

After becoming the most popular utility iron on the PGA Tour, Titleist is now releasing its 503.H Utility Iron to average golfers. With lofts of 19 and 22 degrees, the irons provide a more manageable trajectory than fairway woods or long irons.

This club is an absolute hooking machine! I bought one with an Irod graphite shaft and being that it weighs practically nothing and hooks the ball so well, it does not get my vote! The leading edge could be more rounded as well as the club digs very easily. I am having it reshafted with a DG S-300 in hopes of giving it more weight and hopefully give it another try.

Hi Big Fella

I have one and hate it.

My one has a proto aldila shaft and I find a lot of the time no consistancy in shaping shot's with it. I have played 5 different shaft's in it. and still one of the worst I have had.

Can not wait till my 503.U arrives at the end of the month.I gave it a 3 because It was given to me.

Best wishes

I give this club a 2. I'm sure there is someone out there who likes it, but I couldn't name one who doesn't get paid by Titleist. It works well off the tee, but not the fairway, and definitely not the rough. The offset is completely inappropriate. I find it difficult to hit, and I am a 5 handicap. How good do I have to be to hit this thing? This is the only club I've hit in the past 2 years that has made me second guess myself almost every time I use it. If you are looking for an iron type hybrid, look elsewhere, there are far better offerings available.

sorry to say but I really like it. I have a 19* with a steel shaft stiff. (s300). I hit it really well from the fairway and very well from a tee. My only change to the club would be the offset looks bad visually but I have been able to handle it performance wise. If I just hit driver before this club my swing key is to turn my hands over quicker. If I just hit a short iron (range practice) my swing key is to sweep it more. With those thoughts for me it's a good club. It just needs less offset and a better cosmetic design. The graphite looking cavity is OK.

I'm trying to find a replacement for my 503.h. The offset really distracts me at address...and I tend to hook the ball consistently with this club. On the range I can get it to go straight after a few shots...but the adjustments I make for it on the range are too difficult to duplicate on the course.

Looked at Bridgestone J33 Airmuscle and the Mizuno Fli-Hi...ended up getting a Callaway X-Tour 2-iron. Compared to my 670 irons, this looks and feels like a small hybrid-utility iron...and with reduced offset.

this thing hits the ball HIGH. I love it for tee shots and shots from the fairway. if you're in the rough or a fairway bunker, though... you're pretty much SOL...

overall, I like it. I gave it a 4 as to it goes too high. gonna put an S300 in it and put the NV in my HALO...

This looks like an old thread that's been resurrected...

I play a 503.H. In appearance, it's still the most iron-like hybrid I've tried, and it's a heckuva lot easier to his than my old 2-iron. I find it's very workable and versatile.

I checked eBay, and there are some great prices on this club....anyone who prefers more of an iron look than a wood should strongly consider checking one out.

i love this club, i am a scratch golfer on the Canadian tour and i never will change this for the 585h. I play this 2 iron hybrid with a v2 104g x flex and hit it slightly higher than my 2 iron. i am a huge fan of stinger-shots where i come from because the wind plays an issue and this club it great for it, its higher than a 2 iron but its initial takeoff is the same low flight. Coming from a player that loves long irons, this hybrid gives you the low flight and enough size to work in the rough and the fairways and i agree it is amazing off the tee, i wish people gave this club more of a chance bc it has been a gamer for me since it came out and with the new shaft options that are out it could become gamers for many people unless you just dont like iron styled hybrids

I have the 22 degree with Aldila NVS 85 S - like it a lot. It really is in the same category as the J33 Air Muscle and the Mizuno Fli-Hi and Cleveland LDI, 2 of which I have owned. I like this club the best. It still feels and looks like an iron, as do the others - but it has a little more indication of the transition to a hybrid. It visually is a beautiful transition to my Hogan Edge CFT 2H, which then leads the way to a regular 3 or 4 wood. I only carry one FW depending on the course. You can bust this club like an iron, or sweep it like a fairway wood, though if you tend to get quick or flip it at the end, it can turn over pretty quickly. But on solid nice swings, I like the trajectory and feeling better than the others. It really has a good feel like a hybrid even though it looks like an iron. The trajectory is just about right - medium not too high or low, and it has some spin, though not a lot. I can use this club to hit at a green like a 3 iron with more accuracy than a true hybrid. All around nice club for me. Somewhat forgiving, but borderline game improvement. Responds better to a sound swing fundamentally. Not really a "rescue" club in my opinion.

i still game this thing. i cannot bring myself to like the typical hybrids you see out now. i've demo'd many of them, but none of them knock this club out of my bag. it's a solid driving iron & is very accurate off the tee on the short par 4s. i do not recommend this club for a high handicap however. it's certainly not the most forgiving thing out there.

This club is excellent. If you have a reasonable golf swing and you know that downward preasure is the only way to hit an iron this is a great club.

If you reverse pivot you will hate it! Hit down take a divot and as long as you play tight dry courses this is so easy to hit. Offset is easy and will only

hook if you have a closed clubface to start with.

my turn to add my thoughts

i picked one up at golfsmith for 19 bucks... 19 deg with the stiff aldila

strangely i have never hooked a ball with it... it demands a lot from me, but it works wonderfully off the tee

great club!

I am a fan .... I am a low handicapper and prefer the iron bias to this hybrid. I am gradually moving this direction. I started with the 19* to replace the 1 & 2 iron. Now I got the 22* and cut it to the length of 4 iron. This now replaces my 3 & 4 iron. My only issue is that I probably have too big of a gap between 19* and (short) 22*. I prefer a steel shaft in these. I am thinking about getting another 22* or 19* (making it shorter)(the beauty is they are about $25.00) to fill the gap and dropping the 62* wedge.

Bottom line

- more forgiving and versatile than a std long iron
- more controllable than the wood biased hybrids (for me anyway).
- Price is so good for a used one - can't go wrong.
