I've played 9/100.

#22 Wade Hampton (P)

#31 The Honors Course (O)

#45 Victoria National (O)

#46 Butler National (O)

#62 Milwaukee C.C. (O)

#78 Mountaintop (P)

#93 Crooked Stick (O)

#96 The Pete Dye Course at French Lick (U)

#97 Valhalla (O)

P= properly rated

O= overrated

U= underrated

I don't get how this can be the case. You're asserting that most of the courses that you've played are over rated, but two are properly rated. If Wade Hampton is properly rated, and the next four are over rated, shouldn't Mountaintop be under rated? Either those four are better than Mountaintop, which makes them more or less correctly rated; or they're worse, in which case they're over rated, but in moving them down, you'd have to move Mountaintop up (or pull courses that are not on the list at all to fill the slots). This ranking business is a zero sum game.

The overrated/underrated aspect is based on how the Golf Digest rankings compare to the best courses I have personally played.

My personal top 5:

1. Wade Hampton

2. The Pete Dye Course at French Lick

3. Wolf Run

4. Mountaintop

5. The Honors Course

Wolf Run is ranked #132 on the Golf Digest list, but in my estimation should be higher than The Honors Course, Victoria National, Butler National, Milwaukee, Mountaintop, Crooked Stick, and Valhalla.

The courses that are "overrated" are good/great tracks, but I've played a handful outside the Top 100 that are certainly better.

I've played about half of the GD US list and a quarter of the world list. The GD world list is a bit weird in that they included a lot of lesser known courses from various parts of the world to make it include places other than the US, GB&I and Australia. I'm not sure if all of the ones they added are worthy as I've not played them and don't expect to get to China, the Emirates etc.

These are the ones I've played from the 2016 GD world list:

#1 Royal County Down - At number one can't say it's under rated. If not the best in the world darn close.

#8 The Old Course @ St Andrews - Love the Old course. Definitely in my top 10

#9 Muirfield - Muirfield didn't do it for me.Not sure I'd have it top 10. Maybe 20

#10 Merion (East) - One of my favorites. Can't argue it being a top ten in the world

#14 Winged Foot (West) - Need to play it again

#22 Turnberry (Ailsa) - Really liked it. Not sure how much was the eye candy and how much the course. If not 22, still a top 50 for me.

#23 Sunningdale Old - Love Sunningdale. The Old and New make an awesome day. I'm a Heathlandfan. top 25 works for me. Not much separates the Old from the New IMO.

#25 Portmarnock (Old) - Had a fun day. Solid course. Maybe not top 25. Maybe top 50

#26 Carnoustie - Too tough for me. It would be lower on my list

#27 Royal Portrush (Dunluce) - Had a bad ball striking day, but still loved the course. top 30 works for me.

#39 Pacific Dunes - One of four great courses at Bandon. First US public on this list that I've played.. That seems about right even though on any given day i might prefer to play Old Mac

#42 The Country Club (Clyde/Squirrel) Maybe top 75, but not top 50 for me.

#44 The Ocean Course @ Kiawah Island - Excellent for a US Public, but maybe a little too high on this list

#50 North Berwick - Definitely a world top 50. Maybe even better than that. I'd have NB above The Country Club, The Ocean Course and Pacific Dunes

#51 Whistling Straits (Straits) - Too high. I'd probably play all 4 Bandon Courses again before returning to Kohler.

#56 Teeth of the Dog @ Casa de Campo - Awesome course. Definite top 50 for me.

#60 Los Angeles CC (North)Another awesome course. I'd play here again before the Country Club. I'd reverse the rankings of these two. In fact, LACC might be in my top 25.

#69 Kingsbarns - Okay here

#73 Shadow Creek - Too high

#76 Punta Espada - About right. Lots of eye candy. I need to play it again to focus on the course rather than the Ocean

#77 Olympic Club (Lake) A little too high

#90 Bandon Dunes - Probably okay here but is it really better than Old Mac or the two courses at Streamsong?

#92 Sunningdale (New) - I'd have it higher on my list. Love it. See above re Sunningdale Old

A few that could be in a top 100 list above at least some on the GD list:

Garden City

Sleepy Hollow

Walton Heath

Yale

Ballyneal

Bethpage Black

Cuscowilla

Prestwick

Gleneagles Kings

St Georges Hill

Sagamore

Rosses Point

Pasatiempo

Western Gailes

Woking

Worplesdon

Baltusrol (both)

Based on the 2015-2016 list:

32 - Shadow Creek

58 - Baltusrol (Upper Course)

90 - Aronimink (only top 100 I've played multiple times, probably about 4)

Public list:

6 - Shadow Creek

36 - Fallen Oak

41 - Wolf Creek

98 - Buffalo Ridge (back when it was Branson Creek)

Was pretty close to playing overall top 100 #45 - Victoria National but we got rained out. Have also played a couple courses that once were top 100 but haven't been on the top 100 in several years.
