Apple Watch for Golf

Are there any apps available through the Apple Watch that would give you GPS yardages on your wrist like the golf specific watches do? Contemplating an Apple Watch and would love to use it for golf as well

Yes..there is swing by swing and golf logix that pretty much do all that you need on your watch. I don't have to take our my phone any more cause of it.

i have the original AW and love it for golf. i wanted an all inclusive device and not switch for daily use, activity and then for golf. i was using a garmin S1 before. i downloaded the Hole 19 app and have been very happy with it. the AW was kinda slow before they updated earlier this year, but now its snappy. im sure AW2 is even better. the H19 app keep handicap, all my rounds, scorecard, and distance to the hole.

As an FYI, i have an Apple Watch Series 2 SS i recently purchased. I have a Nomad Brown leather band, Midnight Blue Leather loop (made by Apple), White Sport band and the watch is 42mm. If anyone is interested lemme know. All of the items are in near mint condition. All total it would cost over $900 new. I'd be willing to part with it all for $700.

I have GolfShot on my phone and really like it. They also have it for the Apple Watch I believe. I don't own an Apple Watch but not sure I could play with a watch on. But that's me.

Did they fix the hole advance issue with Hole 19? I tried it for a few rounds, but it wasn't as hassle free as I wanted. The main thing was it didn't auto advance. I'd be on the fifth hole, look down at the watch and it's asking me my score on the 2nd hole. PITA. I just want something to tell me how many yards to the pin. I don't need it to keep score, tell me the distance to hazards etc. Have they fixed it to auto advance?

No auto advance. You can either select the hole or hit the score button and if you don't want to enter it, swipe left and it then takes you to the next hole.

Other than that quirk, Hole 19 was fine for my Apple Watch. But it stopped me from using it. So I moved on to a Garmin Approach X40... which it turns out has a similar issue. image/swoon.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':swoon:' />

i have the SS 42mm AW but mainly use my iPhone for GPS yardage. not much of a watch wearer on the course though the one time i did and used GolfShot GPS, it worked very well. you can search the app store for golf apps and they should have the small logo for AW if they support it.

I have original 42mm Apple Watch and use GolfLogix upgraded subscription on both iPhone 7 plus and my watch. Buddy I play with has his laser rangefinder and typically GolfLogix is within 3 yards of accuracy!

Watching this thread with interest, the missus is going to get me an Apple Watch 2 for Xmas.

Out of interest I read somewhere that the side button can interfere with a golf swing - anyone agree and if so do you wear the watch "upside down" with the button on the arm side rather than the hand side for golf?

Game golf app works perfect with the Apple Watch.. You can tag your shots and get gps yardage all from the watch. The Apple Watch pretty much acts as the Game Golf Live device. And it's free

I had the same issue and briefly turned it around. Eventually I swapped it back to normal and changed the settings so I could not take screenshots. I still turn on Siri a few times per round.

What band do you guys like the most? I'm kinda digging the white Nike band - but am afraid it'll get dirty quite quickly. Especially once summer rolls back around and I start sweating

I have the AW2 and recently downloaded Hole 19 (haven't had a chance to play round with it yet) so I've been lurking in some forums on the watch as it relates to golf. My question for these apps getting suggested: are any of them actually taking GPS from the watch or is it still the phone? A majority of the posts I've seen have people indicating it's still pulling off the phone instead. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'd assume the app would automatically pull the gps from the watch. I don't have the AW2 so not sure how exactly it works but would think it would since with the AW1 you need to be close to your phone and it uses the phones GPS for yardage which sometimes defeats the purpose of using the watch while you have your phone.

I would too, but people have complained in other forums that their yardage was matching the cart (where their phones were) instead of the watch location.

I have the black woven nylon band. It fits well for being active but does get a bit funky smelling when it gets sweaty. However once it dries (which is pretty quick) it doesn't smell at all. It's a good cross, it works for dress/work and for golf/gym. A buddy of mine has had the white rubber band for at least a year and I've never noticed it looking dirty.

I have the series 2 and have tried golfshot and hole19.

Hole19 seems to be the more accurate.

I have used it at a couple of courses and it has been spot on with the yardage ( or meterage ).

I also have not had an issue with the swing causing issues, as some others have reported.

    cheers

You might want to have a look at this thread: http://www.golfwrx.c...ps/page__st__90

Personally I quite like Fun Golf GPS. It is not cheap but IMHO better than hole19 and for GolfShot you have to pay subscription as well if you want decent functionality on the phone.

I have the AW2 and it uses the watch's GPS... not the phone with most of these apps...

played 27 holes yesterday with my AW (not AW2) and mine lasted all day. from 8am - 9pm and it still had about 45% battery left. although mine is without GPS so that obviously doesn't help your question. haha
