Even if I tried they would have no idea what I was talking about. Nor would I.

Hogans secret was his secret. Doesn't mean it would work for anyone else. Fools gold.

Every man and his dog on wrx claims to have figured out Hogan's secret but I have yet to see one swing posted that comes close. Too much talk and too little action!

Don't have to share the secret. Just show us how it's done and then go win some majors.

Yup. Even Hogan was wrong when he said his secret is the cup!

To answer the question of this thread, it is possible to share the benefits of the secret without divulging it. Think KFC and it's herbs and spices.

Hogan divulged secret, description was lacking, it doesn't have desired effect if you don't make Hogan backswing. Has benefits on steeper planes as well. Secret is the backswing.

Ok. Now this is interesting. The hand action in backswing? Yes, Hogan didn't describe his backswing as detailed as his downswing. Its just the waggle (which is not even backswing), the sequence, the hip restriction, the plane, the upper arms wedged on the side, the right elbow not getting away. But yes, no hand action

Wait, yes there is. He said the hands or wrists or club cocks naturally, on its own

Ever wonder why elites struggle with description? Once the 'little robot' starts telling you what to do reality gets blurry. The right arm cocks the left wrist but the hands are in command. Once you learn to ride a bike does it happens naturally and on its own?

Well, if that's the case everybody including you is just talking BS then, yeah? So we should all listen to non-elites?

What WAS his secret?.....Or Jack's?......Or Tiger's?........It wasn't the swing at all, it was the mind!.......All 3 were golden in the clutch, which is based on trust, feel, and confidence. You can't buy or LEARN that! It comes from within. VERY FEW have had it, numerous guys have felt it for a week, maybe 2.......

Step 1. Left arm is a rope.

Just because it's like starting over doesn't mean it's wrong.

Good Luck

General statements isn't enough to convince someone especially between strangers, AC. You have to explain why. And address the issues raised, explain why they aren't valid.

Just for clarity, not saying you're wrong, but do you believe Hogan uses a left arm rope and extensor action right arm?

He came back from a really bad wreck to play lights out.

His secret was juice. Ben Hogan juiced.

:to_become_senile:

Wondering if the wreck got to do with the "secret". Did it help? Did it spur the invention? Or is it just chance?

Did his wrecked knee (right or left?) forced him to be more lateral on the lower body?

The "secret" was found in July of 1947 ... the "wreck" happened in February of 1949. He himself said that he was at his best post secret, pre-accident. Studying the man's life will give one a deeper understanding of his swing.

I see. Power Golf is 1948, which means it's post-secret?

Pre-secret ... copyright date is 1948, but it was actually released in time for the Christmas selling season in 1947, The publishing world often acts like the auto industry, i.e. 2017 models are released in the fall of 2016.

The promotional vids were all shot at Augusta in the Spring of 1947, months before the secret was found ... they are worth thousands of words. Hogan's ideas and concepts had to have been communicated to and understood by the ghost writer and copy completed in time for editing, layout, printing and distribution to occur before the early fall of 1947. So Hogan had found the secret before the book was released, but not in time to make it into the final copy.

No matter, as it was a small tweak to his action that he wasn't telling anyone about anyway ... the rest of his swing was already in place.

Makes sense. The swings in Power Golf and Five Lessons are quite different. Not sure if that's due to his injuries or swing technique

Probably some of both ... his injuries might have forced some adjustments but he never quit trying to perfect his technique. IMO, the "secret" remained a constant in his action ... he just kept getting better at calibrating and applying it.

What people miss, even seen it stated in some videos, was that 'he struggled to win, then found it, then started winning'. Reality was he had won several majors and was a serial winner pre-'secret'.

Shooting a video and photos at Augusta for Power Golf (pre secret) - you don't get that opportunity (or interest in you) unless you are already a class player. Even in the early years of the Masters I'd have have thought.

Either way, the secret was about his hook, not reaching the upper pantheon of the game's best players. Note the foreword to Henry Picard in Power Golf. He was already a top player.

Many noticeable differences between the 1948 swing (of which I've only seen one dated from then) and pre-1948. Slightly shorter, weaker grip two massive changes.
