SuperSpeed Golf training system

Recommended Posts

I've been seeing a lot of Instagram posts of this training system. Thoughts? What's the difference between this and an Orange Whip or a SKLZ Gold Flex besides the 3 different weighted clubs?!

I'm interested too. From what I've read superspeed is helping you train pure speed. Orange whip is more tempo. Love to hear results from those who have tried it.

This has helped me, I've went up from 108-112 to 115-122 in a month.

The gains have mainly been fromnaligning my kinematic sequence vs speed themselves.

I made my own from $5 shafts on eBay and washers. $20 total vs the 200 they charge

Would love a how to on this. Thanks!

I prepped the shaft 2", put 2 inches worth of washers on the shaft and epoxied them in place. I think I used .375" washers. Not quite sure. Then I taped more washers to get it to the right weight. I wanted to make sure that the balance was consistent so that's why I didn't add washers all the way up.

I used 180, 200 and 220 grams

Here are the set of Speed Sticks that I built for under $90. True Temper Rocket Shafts in X flex, 3 Super Stoke TX1 grips, 100,200 and 300 gram Calibration weights that you can get on eBay. 9.1mm Drill bit, Tour Van Epoxy and some Bramptons strips and your good to go. Finished club weights are 220,320 and 410 grams and play 45". I'm currently SS average for the blue 320 is 114 mph.

Weight should ideally be 5-7% lighter or heavier. 30+% is way too much a change IMO.

Program definitely helps. One needs to chart what changes, feels, or techniques they use to increase speed. Just swinging same swing fast, over and over won't increase speed near as much as modifying technique.

Once you're able to increase speed to desired level without the ball you MUST maintain exact same change, feel, or technique when hitting a ball, or I can promise you...you won't gain speed.

I agree, I have been using Clay Ballards road to 125 from Top Speed golf. To get my speed from 105 to 114 consistently required proper techniques and good form. My driver is 109-111 and you definitely notice the wind drag after using the training clubs. Without proper sequencing you can get to your peak speeds.

So once cylinder of washers and then add washers. Epoxy them onto the shaft and then add additional washers to get it to the right weight.

180-200-220

10% lighter, even weight, 10% heavier

The -10 will be quicker than gamer speed, even weight will be slightly faster and the +10 will be slightly slower

The 136 is an attempt at a passive brag with the lightest one

Just checked BH stats , he has been around 113mph for 2015 and 2016 . For the 17 season he is averaging 120.1

Got me interested , I've done this training before and picked up speed but it wrecks my swing and my mechanics get worse. Maybe I over did the training

I weighed my 915 Driver before I started and it was total weight of 330 grams and that was my target weight for the blue club. I see alot of speed jump when going from the red club to the green then to my 915. The red really feels like your building strength where as the green/blue are pure speed. I also wanted a noticable weight difference between my driver and the heavy club. Makes my 915 feel light and fast.

Been looking at this and think I came up with a cost effective option. The driver heads for US Kids drivers range from about 170 to 180 g depending on the age/size kids they are fitted for. So, have 3 shafts, one with one of the heads for the 10% lighter, one with a standard head, and one with a standard head and either hot met or lead tape added to get to 220 g.

Here is my Speed Sticks and Swing Wing. Hit a new top speed today with my V2 shaft with no head. Also hit 101mph with the 410 gram club which is a new high. Really starting to see quality results with the step and swing sequence.

Are you guys measuring total weight or head weight? Are the swing weights constant or is it all head weight?

I measured total weight of the shaft, grip and added weight. Double checked mine and they are 220/315/410 grams. My lightest shaft is 118gr and it's basically just a 45" shaft with a grip on it.

Cool. So 45 inch clubs, with 100, 200, 300g weights minus the bore out?

I drilled all three weights with a 9.1mm drill bit with a depth of 1 1/4". I tip prepped the shaft 1 1/4" and also added 9-12 small horizontal notch file marks with a circular rasp file. This give the epoxy a little more surface area to adhere to. Last think I need is to bomb the neighbors with a 300 gram 150mph projectile. I also added the epoxy to the weight first and rotated the shaft down into the hole that way there is even coverage and there is epoxy up the center of the shaft. I used .350 wood ferrules from golfworks since the TrueTemper rocket shafts were .350 tips. I just used 30 minute Golf Works epoxy then I measured each shaft with weight to 45" and used a Harbor Freight chop saw to make my cuts. I used I layer of grip tape and Bramptons HF100 for the grips. I used the SuperStroke TX1 grips since they had Gray/Green/Blur/Red grips and they are $3 at Golf Galaxy right now. Plus the cord grips should hold up better then say a tour velvet grip. Measured each one for final weight and just took a sharpie to the weight for the final number. I do Protocol One https://www.youtube....VFY0XeZg-Bx8guq and use the SwingWing http://www.swingwinggolf.com/ that I got for $4 on eBay in between each set. You can really feel the burn while doing 8-10 swings. After Im done with the Red club which you will be huffing and puffing I will then swing the Gray Super light club 5 times until I see the Peak which will go from 125 mph and jump up to 150 range. When I was first doing it, it would go from 110 to 125 range. Thats when you know the fast twitch muscles are firing. Then I give 3 normal swings with the Blue club which is 15 grams lighter then my 915 then note my speed. I have been seeing a steady climb of 1-2mph after each session. Pretty crazy to be honest. Swinging the super light club at the very end once the muscles fatigue seems to be the key to programming the fast twitch muscles.

What weight were the shafts raw and did you pick x flex so they wouldn't flex easily?

I can only find those shafts at $30 each so by the time I put it all together its going to be north of $100 and the Superspeed set with all the instruction guides is $200. The weights ive found, so now looking for alternative shafts in the $18 area. Thanks man.

I was able to put offers in on eBay and got them for $17 each. Im pretty sure there was a video about the Superspeed club shafts were X flex also. The True Temper Rockets were 69 gram. I was browsing eBay for cheap shafts and the first one purchased was $10 shipped.Rocket Shafts!! The 410 club flexes like a fly fishing pole. I did just order a 250 Gram weight to replace the 300 one on Amazon for $7.00 with free shipping. The 410 club whoops my butt swinging it even though I can get it up to 104mph.

I've been seeing a lot of Instagram posts of this training system. Thoughts? What's the difference between this and an Orange Whip or a SKLZ Gold Flex besides the 3 different weighted clubs?!

I have been at it for 2 weeks now. SS before was 105 consistently, now 107... I have also being using the SOMAX, so I am not sure which is contributing to the increase but I am excited for the future for sure...
