Looking for a driving iron hybrid club???? OPINIONS!!!!

Based on most reviews, I'd agree with this. I've never hit the J33 "Airmuscle", but I read a LOT of wonderful reviews of it.

For a driving iron - I went with a 2-iron J33 combo, with an Aldila NV85 Hybrid shaft. So far - I love it, but you need to put a good swing on it, otherwise it will get away on you (it IS a 2-iron after all! HAHA!!). It's fairly forgiving for a 2-iron, and good shots are rewarded with a VERY penetrating low, hard ball flight.

If you're looking for more of an "Iron" type club, take a look at the Tour Edge Exotics 2-iron, It has a large cavity, feels and looks good, and doesn't have the bulkiness of a true hybrid. Good sticks.

I'm looking for a driving iron hybrid club, I've had the old Fli-Hi and hooked it a little too much and the same with a G2 HL, but I don't hook the ball as much now so that doesn't really bother me. I've mostly looked at the Cleveland LDI, Mizuno Fli-Hi II, Bridgestone J33 (I've also considered the Titleist 503, but I've demoed and wasn't impressed). I've watched these on ebay and I can get any of them for under $100 easily, so it leaves me money for an upgrade in the shaft department. I'm only looking a driving iron styles so opinions on any of these or even like the Fourteen styles would be appricated. Thanks.

.. by a large margain, the tour edge tour-ironwood is the best iron-hybrid i have hit. it just does everything well. nice, high trajectory that can be knocked down when needed. it is awesome lookin in the address position, and very forgiving. i have the 22* #3 to replace my 3i and used the MLTi shaft from my irons. same length and weight, so i get the distance of a perfectly struck 3i without a perfect swing:

another option is the nike pro combo utility iron. very inexpensive. you can hit penetrating shots or high soft landing shots. great off the tee and ground. easier than a long iron out of the rough, but not as good as a hybrid wood style club. i have a 18* that is currently taking a brake in lieu of a taylormade rescue dual, but will probably be back in the bag soon.

I like the tour edge iron wood as well as noted earlier. Another option is a 904f 17 or 19 degrees wood. I find it as easy (if not easier) to hit from the fairway as a hybrid.

Today demoed a LDI and I'm not too sure about it. I hit the 18 with the NV shaft and I really liked the low flight of it, but it just felt kind of hollow to me. So I liked the performace, but I am a feel player so its still an option. I haven't thought really about the tour edge that much or ever had a chance to hit it, after looking at the link provided above it appears to be more of a "wood" like hybrid than a driving iron style, and I don't know how much I care for the paint on the club because I'm not really planning on sticking a headcover on it. Right now I'm going to keep a watch on ebay for the J33, LDI, and the Iron-wood. Keep the opinions coming this way. Thanks guys.

If you said you have hooked them I wouldn't go with the 503h or fli hi II because they have such a closed face. I know you said your not worried about it any more thought bbut I said it. Just buy what appeals to you.

... exactly the opposite. it looks almost exactly like a j33 combo at address. the sleek black back seems to disappear when looking down at it. if you hold it up an look at the face eye height, you would never know it was a hybrid. if ya get a chance, demo one.

Just an update, I got a Bridgestone J33 19 with the NV 85 hybrid and I like the head a lot, but I'm not too sure if I'm really crazy about the shaft, I'll probably be looking for something heavier, any thoughts on a shaft (100g+). Thanks

If you like the feel ofg the shaft you could get the nv-105. I have that in my ldi and it feels ok.
