Stenson at the Open '16. Coming from a diehard Tiger fan. But he had a lethal short game and putter too. Stensons proximity and last round alone was some video game stuff.

Stenson 3W and iron play this Open was godly, I hope it gets the respect it deserves for years to come. He is the poster boy for Nippon 120 lol.

How about David Toms in the finals at the match play championship years ago.

That immediately came to mind when I saw the thread title. It wasn't just the finals either. It was the entire week. Thoroughly dominant.

Hogan - shells wonderful world against Snead. Daft long course for the day. Every fairway every green...

Norman's 63

Millers 63

Nicklaus back 9 at the masters in 86

Duval 59

Stenson 63

Tiger at 97 masters for sheer power

Tiger at pebble for strategy

Byron Nelson for his entire winning run year (yes field depleted due to the war but his scoring average was daft low. A well earned Vardon)

For me it was actually a little known local pro. We got to the course an hour early, which was uncommon for us. We had been out all night at a local strip club even though we had a money match the next day. As I fell out of the car into the parking lot and proceeded to the bar for a little hair of the dog to keep me upright my friend with all of his courage and might made his way to the range. My buddy was one of those guys that no matter how he hit it on the range would bring his game to the course. As I watched my friend from the bar hit one left, one right dry heave and repeat I knew that we would be ok. On the first tee after three bloody marys I proceed to plant my tee in the ground alonf with my face. I popped up off the ground like a sloth with an inner ear infection and proceeded to blast a drive down the fairway. Not the the fairway I was aiming at but at least my partner would carry me through this hole. So my buddy after practicing for 45 minutes was ready for action. We were playing the back tees and we were ready to take on the world. My friend takes a massive practice swing just to scare these young guys we were playing with and with all of his might accidently hits the ball off the toe of his club straight into the ball washer and it comes back and hits him square in the nuts. That was the greatest ball striking I have ever seen.

This is hard to top. He won hitting, essentially, only irons. Didn't matter how far he was from the pin that week, he was going to find a way to get the ball near the whole (on rock hard greens).

People forget how good of an iron player Tiger was under Haney.

Only been watching since the 90's, but the following stand out in my mind:

Duvals' 59, Tiger at 97 Masters (but not the first 9 holes that week), Tiger at 2000 US Open, Stenson at British Open

I have a hard time not including Rory in this list.....soft greens or not, his start to the US Open at Congressional in 2011 was pretty sick.

Normans 63 first round of the masters.....but i am biased ;)

63 to open the Players in 94, followed by 3 67's ......-24........That course is NOT easy......

When you drive it like the Shark in his prime, every course is easy.

For me, its not even close...

Nobody has ever had a tournament like Trevino on Saturday and Sunday at the 72 Open Championship...

Heck, the great Tony Jacklon was so affected by Trevinos driving and iron play he never recovered...how could he??

Lee was a god in those days...even jack says only Hogan and Trevino are to be discussed in terms of ball striking all time...

Enjoy:

Tiger 2000 U.S. Open

Tiger 2006 British Open

2006 Open is my favorite tournament of all time...

He hit a driver once on the first day and realized his 2 iron was rolling around 60 yards on the burned out Hoylake...

So never hit it again....heck, he holed out with a 4 iron from 200 out if memory serves that never left the flag...

The ground was so hard divots were impossible...Sergio and everyone else was occasionally thinning shots...

Tiger struck every single iron on the button...

And it is the only time I've ever heard a PGA tournament where the fairways stimped faster than the greens...

Favorite tournament ever..

Super Story

He should definitely be in the top pantheon of Australian golf

I hope that you are well

Happy New Year

All the Best,

Richard

If he had any sort of personality, he'd be much better known. His round at Merion was one of the best Major Final Rounds in history. 15 GIR, 3 more in the fringe. He putted for Birdie on every single hole.

I'm doing great thanks Richard & looking forward to a great 2017 for all of us, my friend!
