Zepp 2 Review

Recommended Posts

Zepp Yes or no:

Last week I got a package from zepp with the zepp 2 golf in it. In this review I will be talking about the build quality, design, compatibility, ease of use, Etc.

I will start out with the design. The zepp is a small 1 by 1 inch bluetooth swing tracker. It connects to your glove via a rubber dongle. I found that this dongle was a pain to take on and off the glove as well as it also slide around every time I took a swing. Otherwise the green circle shaped sensor is appealing to the eye. Moving on I found the build quality of the Zepp not to be so amazing. As I already stated the dongle moved around on my glove everytime I swung, this being said It makes me wonder how accurate the readings are for the sensor. Is it sensing my swing or is it sensing itself bouncing around. I find the materials used to be quite exceptional. The sensor has been banged around, dropped, etc and their were no dents or cracks. Only minor scratches. The battery life on the zepp is a complete other thing. I believe the amount of time it can hold a charge with the amount of time it takes to charge is incredible. It lasted a good 4.5 hrs with non continuous use but about 3 hrs with continuous use. It takes about 2 hrs to fully charge. I have found that even a 15 minute charge has lasted me at least an hour. The compatibilty of the device is nice to. It works on both ios and android devices. Finally I will talk about ease of use. I found the sensor to be very simple to use while having features that might seem advanced to the normal golfer. I never had any trouble charging, turning on, and even connecting the sensor to the app. While in the app you can choose to practice or be on course mode. Both modes allow you to get your swing data, course mode also allows you to see you score and consistency. From there you are able to take recordings of yourself in the app and compare it to the ideal swing. You also have the choice to watch professional lessons and have challenges given to you.

Build quality: 8/10 Design: 8/10 Compatibility: 10/10 Battery life: 9/10 Charge time: 9.5/10 Ease of use: 10/10 Features: 7.5/10 Overall: 62/70

To me this is a definate buy

I wonder if you are putting the device on your glove incorrectly. My Golfsense (zepp) device is very secure attached to my glove. Already enough variables during a golf swing, sure don't need the measuring device to be one of them. Have you used it during a round of golf? I am interested to see what that experience is like.

I do put the mount on like correctly like it says in the instructions. Also I've only used t about 3 times in a game from what I know and have seen it do it is nice.

Hollie, which tripod did you buy? Also, it is my understanding that you can play a round of golf with it without your phone. How does it know what club you are swinging? Any experience with it?

I recommend Manfrotto tripods. Mine is a full size tripod that I use with the legs fully collapsed.

You can use the device without your phone. When you open the app again it syncs all the swings not on the phone. If you don't adjust the club in the app, it will sync all the swings under the last club you selected.

I have not used it in course mode yet but it does not look like there is a club selection section. It measures and compares the swing metrics swing to swing.

How accurate is this device.

I dont see how it can track the clubhead from the movement of your hand.

I could really snap my wrists and it wouldn't register on the movement fg my hand.

If my wrist breaks down at impact or is really open or closed at the top how does this device know?

I find Zepp very accurate for what I use it for. It will measure your hand and club plane but not if your wrist casts too early at the top of the BS specifically. Zepp is really helpful with measuring tempo as well as the variance in the BS vs the DS. Length of the BS is also measured accurately. Club head speed is relative from what I've read and experienced. It measures your middle irons most accurately for club head speed. If you need real CHS numbers, I recommend your closest big box store with a launch monitor or a club/bag fitting.

It has helped me get better quicker than when I practiced/trained without it.

I have the first gen Zepp and I love it, However, please spend the right amount to make sure the device is calibrated and that the hand position is set up accordingly to your settings. It can be found in the settings under "hand config." or something like that. I have mine set to like 10 and 4 or something like that. I also find that when using this and a trackman at the same time you can figure out the variance in Club head speed normally its about 2-3 miles above actual trackman data, but depends because this measures hand speed and uses an algorithm to calculate club head speed based on the information you put into it like club type, length and hand position.

Hope this helps whoever is reading this

When I posted a while back I was still using Zepps 1st generation device "Golfsense". I have since bought the Zepp 2 device. Very nice upgrade. I got a tripod and use the video feature frequently. Seeing a video and corresponding swing metrics such as hand and club plane, hand and swing speed, backswing length, hip rotation, etc, is invaluable to me.

What are the in app purchase(s) and how much does it cost? Monthly/yearly?

Zepp2 cannot be compared to an expensive swing analyzer. When I first used it, I spent a few sessions looking for my baseline numbers. I determined where my problems were, used a few actual lessons with a local pro, and watched my numbers change from my baseline. The golf course is the final determination and I saw results there also. I don't care if the swingspeed is accurate, I do however care if it is consistent and that it is. For me, Zepp2 makes practice fun again. This device, in my opinion, should never be used to fit golfers into new clubs or shafts. Coupled with actual lessons this device is amazing.
