Chamblee goes Easy on Tiger

I wonder if Golf Channel execs sat down Chamblee and told him to ease up on the tiger rants? Last night after Tigers 74 which could've been 85 and displayed a swing that had more holes in it than swiss cheese, Chamblee came out with "Welcome back, Tiger has nothing to prove and he has a decade left to play if healthy". Never seen such a soft analyis especially when had so much he could've gone into. He later went into a split screen analysis but even that was soft and lacked his typical hysterics on tiger. Is this the new Chamblee after a corporate scolding?

any way ya look at it tiger draws crowds and that equate to gate $. Prior days gate count was probably half what it was yesterday. Chamblee took notice of the crowd following Tigers group and thought , man that's more people following him than I have on my facebook account.

There has been intel floating around that Tiger had all of the speed back in his swing. Brandel pointed out something very significant ...

He showed video of Tiger during the '13 Farmers. His swing speed with Driver was 120 mph.

Yesterdays swing speed with Driver was 114 mph.

1 mph equals how many yards? 3?

You are saying Tiger Woods is the reason more people came to watch Thursday (first tournament round) than Wednesday (pro am and hit and giggle practice)? No doubt TW sells more tickets, but Thursday will outdraw Wednesday by more than double every week, no matter who is playing.

He's a smart guy and it's all calculated to aid in whatever Brandel figures is most strategic and for his own benefit.

Another thought, I don't think it took too much for Brandel to go easy on Tiger last night. First competitive round in over 500 days after two back surgeries while coming back on a brute like the South Course.

Tiger could've played much worse given the circumstances.

I thought it was three.

Three overall, two since the 2015 Wyndham.

1 mph equals how many yards? 3?

I'll let the true trackman aficionados correct this if I am wrong, but I believe 1MPH of ballspeed equates to around 3 yards of carry. Assuming a constant smash factor of 1.5 (OK, that may be a little high), his drop in clubhead speed would equate to a lost of almost 10 MPH in ball speed .....or about 30 yards of carry......which was about what I think I saw to my admittedly untrained eye yesterday,

But its is early times......

Well, there is that. It is just the first tourney back though.......I seem to recall a few years back where GC was showing some data re Mickelson's clubhead speed, and how he had lost a bit of his fastball. I think he stemmed/corrected that to some degree. I am sure Tiger will amp it up a bit as he gets back in game shape.

That said, and this is really a no-win situation for him given his history at Torrey and the fact that its a home game - I can't think of a worse tournament to return at. I think he would have been much better served to play Hawaii....warm weather, enough wind and some small greens and a few tough tee shots to start to test himself, perfect flat greens. Just seemed a better place to get his feet wet, get the confidence building, make some birdies etc.......but like I said, I can only assume the "sky is falling" stuff had he skipped Torrey.

Said it endlessly, the last thing he needs to think about is speed. Needs to swing 105-110, hit the damn fairway, concentrate on courses that will suit the furyk style of play. If he could re model his game he'd still have a chance at the British, maybe a US open..

Swinging fast will guarantee he plays rubbish, scores rubbish, and gets injured

Exactly. BC gains nothing by kicking a man while he's down and trying to regain form. Once Tiger starts playing better BC will be back to his old ways.

You think Tiger Woods will never be a good player again? Really? You might dislike him which is fine but don't be a fool about his playing ability. The guy hasn't played in a year and a half. At least give him until the US Open to figure it out.
