I actually like that the prices have gone down by a lot since December. Hopefully things can be steady from here on out

I think regulation will shake out the bad cryptos, reward the good ones. Besides, when investing in cryptos only use the money you’d put on the pass line at the casino.

Can anybody give an example of an asset that - in a 3 month time span - increased in value by 300%, and then declined by 65%, and turned out to be a profitable investment from that point forward?

Amazon actually pulled it off over a 3 year horizon. But has anything this volatile ever worked out? I guess it wouldn't shock me if there was a Pharma stock that did it.

Not in such a compressed timeframe. But the nasdaq more than tripled from 1500 to over 5k in about 1.5 years. Then it declined to 1000 over 2.5 years.

If btc heads back to retest it pre-hyper runup down at around 2000, Id take a shot as a small position as anternative "gold" type alternative asset.

Agree that if we see a decline to something below 2000, with some stability, I'd take a small-ish (like 1% - 2% of total portfolio) position. But I'd categorize it more as a "lottery ticket" type alternative asset than a "gold" type.

going to be a lot of regret in 2018 when you guys look back at the prices you could've bought in at. I'm not saying 6k was the bottom, maybe it was maybe we'll retest that level or lower. looking forward to revisiting this thread in december.

btw, the SEC commision just had a congressional hearing yesterday that was extremely bullish for the long term future of crypto currencies.

No sense in regretting missed opportunities for investment. FOMO and greed drives asset price bubbles.

I'm also incredibly bullish on the long term future of crypto currencies as a technology/service. I'm just not that excited about them as an investment opportunity.

I agree. If it was a real bottom, I think it will be tested again. After a blow off top like we saw, I'm looking for serious consolidation ****over time**** as opposed to another hyper run.

Than would be much healthier, I think, a sustained, long term advance with support levels established and retested.

The Crypto market, why it rises why it falls is still a mystery. It doesn't follow normal stock indicators and seems to be driven by speculation only. There are no doubts that some forms of cypto will be the future, but picking the correct ones and investing wisely beyond BTC and ETH is still a gamble. I have several K invested in multiple coins and tokens and hopefully in 5 years or so they will be worth a bit more and I can give it all to my kids... and maybe buy a new set of clubs :-)

From what I understand, BTC has no real world applications (other than money laundering) given that it's quite slow to process. ETH and XRP may have a better future, but I think ultimately they will either end up being regulated entirely like Currencies or Securities, ergo the USP is gone.

Blockchain however has huge possibilities, but that is entirely decoupled from Crypto's themselves.

    Lulz. Of course you did.

Did I ever tell you about the time I bought Priceline.com in the ipo allocation, sold it at the peak. Bought again after the crash...

I stand by my estimate that all coins on the market in february 2018 will be worthless by the close of business 12/31/22.

i never said i sold at the peak. i sold small portion at the peak and multiple points on way down. i got completely out before the massive tank.

btc has seen 85-90% retracement 5 times now. its then rebounded to new ath. every time people were saying it was the end of btc.

i get many are skeptical and i'm not in this to be a salesman and convince others to buy. do what you want. willing to bet 2022 people will look back and only wish they had bought in in 2019

So that means you think it will go back up significantly, what is your BTC targe price for 1/1/2022? I would bet you $20 on the under. Shake?

I posted @ this time last year when I got out of BTC. I cashed out for more than I put in - but not by much. I made money in XRP but certainly not what I would have made if I cashed out at its peak. My other altcoins were basically a wash.

I initially invested in BTC just because I wanted a better idea of how the system worked, even got to use a BTC ATM a couple of times. Good for me. I scratched the itch.

yeah guess i'm crazy but i do see it going back up significantly. it won't be immediate, but yes i think within 5 years we'll see a new ATH. i've been rooting for the decline once it went under 10k. i'm hoping for more decline only because it will make the returns that much greater on the way up. i'm not predicting a bottom, but once the bull market is back in affect, there will be tons of money to be made. crypto is hardly retirement plan, but putting a small percentage of funds in crypto now that we've seen a 80%+ decline in my opinion is the correct move. only time will tell.
