SM5 K Grind vs SM6 K Grind

In my process of looking for some new wedges I have Vokey's on my list of candidates. I'd be looking at a 60* K grind as my highest lofted wedge. I hit the majority of my shots with a square face. Seems like the K Grind should work for this and also do a better job on "full swings" than some more aggressive grinds.

I know there are some changes from the SM5 to SM6 K grinds, mainly the 60* has 1 more degree of bounce in the SM6 and it also has a different COG then the SM5. I am curious though if anyone who has used both versions of the K Grind can tell me if there is any significant difference in the SM5 and SM6 K grinds? Does the higher COG in the SM6 serve the wedge better for full shots? Just curious as I have read some complaints on the SM5 K grind balloning too much on full shots and that the grind in general isn't as good as the SM6 version.

I like my SM5 K Grind. I don't find ballooning an issue - but I really use it most around the greens and greenside bunkers. Not so much for full-shots.

I never owned the SM5 K-grind but I hit it when I was getting fitted for wedges by Titleist. I hit the SM5 and SM6 K-grinds back-to-back and the SM6 was way better for me. I am not a total club geek when it comes to bounce angles/heel relief etc, so I can't tell you the numerical differences. All I can tell you is that off a clean lie, out of a firm bunker, out of a fluffy bunker and out of deep rough, the SM6 gave me better results than the SM5 K-grind.

Yes I tried to S and the K. The S is great in tight/firm conditions. In the wet, the K is unmatched IMO. The wide sole keeps the club from digging in soggy turf which we have a lot of in the Pacific NW.

It will depend on your course conditions which suits you best. Can't recommend strongly enough going to a Titleist fitting center to get fit. You can't really compare them hitting off of astroturf. You need to hit in real conditions, on real grass and sand. That is the only way to tell which one works better for you and your swing.

Obviously if you live 5 hours away from a fitting center, that isn't going to work but if one is close by, it is TOTALLY worth the $50 they charge (at least that is what they charged me for a 90 minute fitting).

And if you play a bunch of different courses with different turf conditions?

Buy the S and the K :)

I have both and agree it's good in the damp or in deep sand as you can hit without delofting (i.e. At Chambers Bay). Otherwise s or m grind are much better for general play.
