Will Tiger play at Riviera? Tiger Withdraws From Genesis And Honda (merged)

If Tiger really did just have back spasms, then he should be able to tee it up next week. I would bet pretty good money he won't be there. He was committed to the Honda the week after, but that's one of the toughest tracks on tour. I'm thinking we won't see him again until Bay Hill and then the Masters. What are your predictions?

I agree. Since the tournament now involves his foundation, I think he'll tee it up (at least on Thursday).

He should be recovered from jet lag, his PT has sorted out the back spasms, so he should be in full prep mode. If he is unable to play, then there must be some physical issue that has not been resolved, or at least not resolved enough to allow him to play competent professional golf.

I doubt that he will play at Riviera I also believe it's more than just back spasms that's keeping him out of the game. He has lost his confidence and it shows. I was never a Tiger fan as it was fun to watch him play as people can look back and say he was one of the greatest golfers whoever played the game.

He is just now chasing whatever money he can get by appearance fees and endorsement fees. What other company besides Nike likes to throw their money around, oh it's TaylorMade. Look where Nike is now and TM will be heading there if they keep signing big endorsement deals.

This isn't about Nike or TM it's about time Tiger announces his retirement as its sad to see someone so dominant just collapse as fast as he is. I hope by the time the Majors get here I can be proven wrong.

In my humble opinion next week will answer a lot of questions. If he does not play his back is screwed and it is not just spasms and I think it is over. If he does play it is not as much of a physical issue as it is a mental and swing issue as to why he playing so brutally bad and time would tell if he can work through that.

I hope he is there and hope he plays well...but I also hope I hit the lottery tonight and those odds are not very good either.

he'll play. I think the cold weather at torrey then the 17 hour flight tightened him up and it was nothing more than that. He probabaly doesnt WD dubai if he was in mix. I see another MC at LA , Honda, Bay Hill and Augusta before he disappears in some sorta rebuild hiatus.

Golf is definitely more fun when he's playing. I just can't see Tiger accepting missed cut after missed cut. Also, how does a fitness freak's body fall apart this way? I just don't understand...BB

I hope so. I'd love to see him make the cut and get a top 15. I think it would do wonders for his confidence. I can't believe I'm sitting here thinking about Tiger needing confidence but here we are...

He will play and will be fine. He could have played last week in round 2, but he knew he had no chance to make the cut, play would likely be suspended during round 2 and didn't want to wait another day for the inevitable missed cut.

Does anyone know if he's working with T-Made with his New Irons? He would definitely be getting a work-out trying to figure out what Iron choices he likes...Couldnt find anything on the Internet to see if Tiger has Intentions of coming back...

Having had a lower back surgery myself at 24 to remove the remaining fluid/gel inside the disc between l5/s1 I just want to add the following:

Yes it's believable he simply had back spasms last week. They make it difficult to walk let alone golf.

Yes it's possible that will cause him to miss next week due to lingering tightness and missed practice time.

Yes it's possible to be physically fit and develop back problems.

You could see how sore and/or stiff he was in the video. He was moving around with less zest and flexibility that some 70 years golfers I play with. He is definitely hurting all the time. The question whether it will be too distracting for him to play well with it.
