Custom Fitting Question

I'd send them back now, no point trying to play with clubs that are obviously not adjusted for you.

If you tried to play with them, you'd end up trying to adjust your swing to them, and that's just a bad idea :black eye:

If you have another set to play while they're gone, do as he said. The only way you can truly tell is to play them. I just bought a set of i3's that SHOULD be the correct color code, but I am going to watch how they play and if they're off I'll get them fitted and send them off.

You should get them back in plenty of time.

Unless prices have changed, the cost to adjust the loft/lie angle is $18 for an iron set plus $14 for the return shipping (plus any local tax if applicable). Most repairs are completed in 5 to 10 business days or less plus shipping time, according to PING.

I would play them first. Just holding a club is no indication of what lie is correct for you. The toe is almost always up for me at address but not at contact.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I have other sets so not having them for two weeks isn't a problem at all. You're definitely right about trying to adjust my swing while playing with a lie that is wrong for me, that would really screw things up.

I agree with the last post. My toe sticks up at address but some how flattens at impact. Sounds like you want to get them bent anyway. Just do it! You can always bend them back.

Don't forget that the forces during a swing cause the shaft to droop down slightly, so even if you line up with the toe in the air the swing may produce a flat impact angle.

The fitting process involves static measurements to get things started, and ball flight/divot pattern to fine tune. IMO I'd play at least one round with them before you make any changes.

I just received my newly lie adjusted Ping i5's today. It only took 10 days to get them back. It would have taken less but I sent them FEDEX ground (4 days) and Ping sent them back FEDEX 2 Day. The repair sheet on the website does not have the new "Yellow" color code, but I made a note for the yellow (1.5deg up) and they delivered!! And of course with the new painted yellow dots on the hosel.

Fittings should always be dynamic, and always include actual shots (not just on a monitor) to see what ballflight is.

For example, if you are fitted for 1* flat, but your ballflight with the standard lie clubs is consistently right, you generally would not bend the clubs flat as a flatter lie is usually going to make the ball move right (for a right-handed golfer).

I agree with you 100% that just holding the club in your stance and seeing the toe up doesn't say much about what you need for lie. I was fitted though while swinging and they put that thing on the bottom of the club and I was consistently making contact with the the heel half of the club. My fault for not clarifying that earlier. It seems that the best thing to do though is to just play with them a bit and see how they are before I send them in to get adjusted. It's not like it'll hurt to wait.
