Look forward to seeing what people got fit into. Guessing almost everyone got fit into the M2

    3 M1's and 2 M2's.

I got fit into an M1 8.5 cranked up. With a HZRDUS Black 6.0 tipped an inch.

Wow surprised at that. Seems like all the tour guys are in the M2. Anyone even try to fit into the 440 image/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> ?

Not sure if anyone tried the 440. I know Andrew was fit into the M2 D Type, which surprised many of the guys at TM that a player of his caliber would be fit into that option.

I was lucky enough to get an extra night in the hotel because my flight is early tomorrow morning. After heading to In-N-Out with Darrin and Brian, I grabbed a cheap rental car and headed north on I-5 toward Orange County. I met up with Monte Scheinblum for a quick lesson. I figured if I was all the way out here I might as well get some swing work in! A little bonus on top of a Dream day.

So, did you guys just get to pick whatever set of irons/wedges that you wanted built to your specs?

Are they going to build them and send out to you?

Cool, they are hooking you guys up, looks like it was a lot of fun.

From the sound of things today, they are going to ask us for our specs, then they'll build them and send them. I'm thinking I'll go do a quick iron fitting at the TM lab here in town, assuming they have the 770 heads. Apparently no one can get their hands on these things right now, even at TaylorMade! They're calling them unicorns lol.

Congrats on the awesome drivers guys! Did we ever get a definitive answer on what the difference was between the Tour Issue heads and retail heads?
No difference, tour heads are just tested and their specs measured. I'm sure there are people who will say that's wrong, probably to keep sale prices up. That is what I was told a couple years ago on the Sldr Trip.

I was one of the SLDR winners a few years ago and I remember that question being asked (were you at the East Bay location?) and we got the exact same answer you give above. It would be cost prohibitive to build with different materials etc

I'm going to need to do some more testing on course to make the decision. Duane Anderson did all of our putter fittings using their MATT system, which is like a video game motion capture system that uses 8 cameras to map your putter's movement in 3D space. He said that since I miss putts off the toe (according to the system) that the putter twists and sends the ball offline. "in the wild" I haven't had a problem with that. In fact, I've had some pretty good results with it. What Duane told me seems to make sense but I need to verify it with my own experience.

Duane fit me into the Spider Platinum mallet (double bend face balanced) 35", 2° flat, 2° strong, SS PISTOL GT 2.0.

In short. I left the putter portion of the fitting with more questions than answers. In the coming weeks I'll try to answer some of those for myself.

**Sorry, this might be the longest post in WRX history**

    GolfWRX @ The Kingdom – February 26-28, 2017

    The Set Up

As a 4-year WRX "veteran," I’ve followed several OEM-sponsored trip threads. Like all of you, I found myself constantly hitting refresh, eager to see what the guys who had been picked were doing, while at the same time harboring just a bit of envy! Anyone who has hung around the forums for even a short time knows that WRX and the OEM’s really roll out the red carpet for these things. Every time a new trip contest thread would open, I would anxiously apply, hoping it might be my chance. On the night of February 14th (coincidence?? I think not….) a PM from HipCheck showed up that simply said “So…..Want to go to the Kingdom?” As soon as I saw it, my adrenaline went through the roof! I read the email at about 10pm and it really truly was that “kid on Christmas eve” feeling. It took me at least an extra hour or two to fall asleep! The next 12 days would craaaaawwllll by!

    Sunday, February 26th

I must say, I feel bad for the east coasters on this trip! They all dealt with ungodly travel hours, last minute flight changes, and even a death-defying landing, but we all made it to Carlsbad and the amazing Aviara Resort in one piece.

From the beginning, I could tell we had a solid group of guys, and I knew we were going to hit it off. I'm pretty sure Schnee was the real MVP though, in case anyone is wondering! Chris is a great guy with a great sense of humor and he made everyone feel like they'd known him for years. Brian Knudson and Zak Kozuchowski were very welcoming, and made sure we all got our first bit of SWAG – the coveted WRX poker chip! Both of these guys are just super nice, fun guys to hang out with. They showed genuine interest in getting to know each of us, and it was really cool to see some of the faces behind this great site! Zak has a great swing too!

We all chatted at the resort for a bit, then Uber’d to Chandler’s for dinner. There we met up with Jory Mendes (Global Brand Communications Manager) and Ryan Lauder (Director of Consumer Engagement) from TaylorMade. Both guys are very laid back and just a lot of fun to be around. It’s very apparent that they love their jobs, love TaylorMade, and love golf! Over drinks and dinner, they answered questions on all topics, and told stories about Tiger, DJ, Sergio, and Jory’s man-crush, Jon Rahm. Side note, everyone we talked to at TM seems to be very impressed with Rahm, and they are expecting BIG things from him. Tom Kroll mentioned that they have a series of metrics they look at when they pick players to really focus on for branding purposes, and Rahm was off the charts good in all areas. Tom believes he’ll be inside the top 10 worldwide by year’s end, and that he has world #1 qualities. Big-time stuff. Anyway, terrible segue, but the food at Chandler’s was amazing!

Jory wrapped things up by giving us a run-down of Monday’s itinerary: welcome and breakfast at The Kingdom, then each of us would be paired with a fitter that had been matched to us based on a player profile they had us fill out ahead of time. We would get 3-4 hours with our fitter, and Jory told us to be demanding – hit anything we wanted, in any order we wanted, and don’t be satisfied until we got it right! The impression I got was that we were getting the Tour player treatment, and I could not WAIT! We all headed back to the resort and got an early bedtime (well, early for me, the east coasters had been up nearly 24 hours!)

    Monday, February 27th

We had all been watching the weather forecast for the better part of a week prior to the trip, so we knew there was a good chance of some rain on Monday. What we woke up to was not encouraging, but I think we all figured we would eventually get a few good breaks from the rain to get everything done. Sadly, this would turn out to be wishful thinking….

Despite the weather, we were all pumped as we met up in the lobby. We took the shuttle down to The Kingdom, dreaming aloud about all things Tour Issue! We pulled up to “Building 1” and set our bags down inside, dried off a bit and started drooling over the TM hall of fame.

(http://www.golfwrx.c...0#entry15063004), the TP5x is just a better ball for me than what I’ve been competing with, which is the ProV1x. I’ve tested a handful of golf balls this year, and I am flat out impressed with the TP5x. The things that stand out head and shoulders above everything else are the higher launch/higher peak height with long irons, and the pure stability of this ball on full shots, especially off the tee. This thing wants to go SO straight. I made a few squirrely swings on my tee shot on the golf course Tuesday and would have expected more curve, but it just holds its line. One round is not enough to say this is the be-all-end-all for golf balls, but I’m VERY impressed and I don’t say that lightly. I will definitely be doing some additional head to head with the TP5 vs. TP5x, but I don’t foresee anything getting in the way of me putting the TP5x in the bag for the year. Of all the products we tested, I think you all owe it to yourself to try this ball. It’s going to change some things in the industry.

Next, I worked my way over to the driver fitting area. I hit probably 10 shots with my SLDR, and was hitting them really well.

    Tuesday, February 28: #TaylorMadeTuesday!

Everybody was up bright and early, meeting in the lobby of the hotel at 6:15am. We piled into the shuttle to head down the hill to the course, and found out Brian (BCULAW) had to burn the early morning oil for a client of his at 4am I believe?! This poor guy had to have been running on absolute fumes the whole time! He and I were paired with Tom Kroll and Ryan Lauder from TM though and we had a great time out there! Brian hit the ball solidly all day it seemed, and I was impressed with his driving – very nice trajectory and a soft draw on his well-struck tee shots. Also, Aviara is PURE!

    GolfWRX @ The Kingdom – February 26-28, 2017

    Blah blah blah

HUGE thanks to both GolfWRX and TaylorMade for inviting me to be a part of this group! It was such a fun few days, and honestly it’s something I wish all of our core group of WRX members could experience. Picking the brains of the guys at the top of the industry and getting a peak behind the curtain is just a really cool deal, and this is something I’ll never forget! Thanks for reading, and if you have questions, please let me know!

    image/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Drew, that was one of the best write ups I've seen in a while, thanks for sharing the experience and pictures. I've poked in your swing thread every now and then, do you think the D-Type will be versatile enough (in terms of adjustability) if you make any big swing changes down the road? Or are you done with the major work, and just tweaking? I know the driver is fit to how you're currently swinging, just wondering if you might lose some of that optimization down the road. I certainly hope not, of course. Hope you'll be able to re-dial it back in if necessary.

    Maybe ....

It won't feature me, though! The ball testing was first out of the shoot yesterday. I was completely cold and hadn't hit a ball in a week and a half. My first 5 warm up shots were all bottom groove and I threw in a smooth hosel rocket to go with it. By the time the cameras started rolling, I had the worst case of stage fright I have ever felt in my life - shaking like a leaf!!! I played baseball in front of 12,000 fans and never felt as nervous as I did in front of 5 guys and 2 cameras!!!

I'm sure there's a joke somewhere in the last half of that last sentence, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Where's MTLJeff, I'm sure he can figure it out.

Yeah. I sort of walked right into that one.

Hahah! image/cheesy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cheesy:' /> It took me a good nights sleep and two re-reads to realize what the **** Peanut was talking about, durrrr! image/cheesy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':cheesy:' />

Great write up Andrew! I really enjoyed reading about the putter fitting as I was curious what they'd thought about the DF. Interesting feedback about you being more ball/line oriented and how much of a difference it makes to change that focus to something else. As I previously mentioned, I can't wait to get out on the course and play some golf to check out your new swag! Any idea how long til you get your putter?

Also, that picture you took looking back down the 18th fairway upon arrival is a great looking picture, I dig it!

So, mini heart attack scare (would be my 4th!). I just landed in Virginia after flying all night. I got to baggage claim and realize very quickly that my clubs did not appear to have made the trip home. I went to the claims desk and was in the process of filling out the forms when the service employee said "Here they are."

I turned around to find the baggage handler carrying an empty travel bag in one hand, my shoe bag in the other hand, and my stand bag on his shoulders. All of the zippered pockets on my stand bag were open, including the ball pocket containing nearly 2 dozen TP5 Protos and the head and headcover for my newly fitted M1.

I panicked! I am still not sure that everything made the trip, but it appears to have. Apparently, the zipper on my travel bag pulled apart when the bag was being loaded. The contents must have spilled out because my irons were not in their proper location in the bag dividers. I guess security went through the pockets of my bag looking for hazardous objects or something, because that's the only explanation I can think of for all of the zippers being opened. I'm hoping I dodged a bullet, but won't know for sure until I get home and have a chance to do an inventory.

    I didn't even try the M2, D, or the 440.

Jason put me in the M1 460 9.5 standard weight all the way draw and forward with the GD BB S6.

Whaaaaat, dude, make sure to file a claim with the airline ASAP. I think they usually require you to file a claim with in 24 hours of arrival to your destination. I hope they make it right, that's bogus. What airline was it?

I had an issue where Delta lost my luggage last year during the meltdown and when I got my suitcase, it was covered in what looked like stale oil. I filed a claim immediately and got reimbursed the full amount I originally paid for the luggage upon uploading a receipt to their claims center.

    Great writeup Drew!

Sorry to hear about the luggage problem Brian. Might not be a bad idea to file a claim like robrey85, just in case. If everything turns up, you can probably just withdraw the claim.

I was at The Kingdom Reynolds Plantation.
