Golf Channel turning API into a funeral wake... ugh

Their coverage all week has been so depressing. I get it, we love Arni, but they have this solemn broadcast bit down... It's like watching a wake for Arni's funeral instead of a celebration. Enough already....

It would have been better if the statue was life size, not 11' tall. Also, the follow through does not look like Arnie, and the grip is all wrong.

I get it, it is a work of art. But they could have done a better job. Apparently the artist just copied an existing statue at Wake Forest.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

Had the same thought upon seeing the statue. That's not the follow through we all saw for years and years...

I understand some of the dislike, but you have to remember what Mr. Palmer meant to this tournament, the Bay Hill area, the Orlando area as a whole and in particular The Golf Channel. If there was no Arnold Palmer, there would be no Golf Channel.

Mr. Palmer didn't just stamp his name on Bay Hill, he lived there and hung out there. Guests playing golf could come right up to him and get an autograph or a picture. He took a shack of a hospital and turned it into a world renowned children's hospital that has tremendously helped countless children and their families.

His presence in Orlando in itself turned the city into a major golf destination. And as far as the Bay Hill area, it's about the least snooty Tour stop you'll ever find. It's really a party atmosphere throughout the week with so many houses having cookouts with drinks, kids selling lemonade and candy and everybody having a good time. The course is great for spectators as it is easy to walk, there's a nice bleacher section behind the range (most Tour stops don't have that), and they allow for free on-course parking on Monday thru Wednesday. I'm certain that is exactly how Mr. Palmer wanted it. And let's not forget that when the tournament was going, Mr. Palmer would take a golf cart out each day and sign countless autographs for the people.

A lot of stuff has happened since Mr. Palmer's passing, but this week naturally serves as a reminder that our dearest friend in the game is gone and how badly we miss him already.

GC is in a bit of a tough spot, they can't win really. If you down play it people will b****, if you overdo it you'll get the same. I mean Arnie founded the Golf Channel, of course they are going to take every opportunity to pay tribute to him. I do agree about the comments on the statue, they got it all wrong!!

Agree. The coverage reminds me of 1999 coverage of Payne Stewart's death. That was tragic and deserved a somber tone. Arnie's memory, in my opinion, should be celebrated. Of course it is sad that he is no longer here, but I feel a celebratory tone would be more appropriate.
