Hadwin also seems to be missing for his wedding which is unfortunate because he probably would have done very well here. He's been playing pretty well of late.

Henrik Stenson, Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler are missing.

Is there a reason these guys are skipping or is it just not a part of their normal schedules? I would think it would take a special occasion to sit out a WGC.

Stenson said he didn't like the 'round robin' style format. Rose and Fowler played last week so I guess it depends on how they want to schedule leading up to the Masters (not sure if they typically play in Houston). Adam has said he is playing the week before every major this year. So that means he is definitely in for Houston next week (and that's probably why he skipping this week).

This event should return to La Costa (being a San Diego resident I am completely biased), but logically, I think its placement on the schedule back then (usually the last week of February) would be more advantageous to the players, the tour, tv ratings and sponsors.

It would be interesting to look at the TV stats. I know ratings for golf events are down all across the board.

Can't argue with that! But the way the tour markets this thing with brackets etc is strange because of the round robin format. Win or go home should be how match play works.

Stephen Ames knows this feeling... when he was eviscerated by TW like a decade ago haha

I feel like ratings have to be down because of the NCAA tournament right? Sweet 16 and Elite 8 play will begin on Thursday and carry on through Sunday. Who will be watching the WGC, besides golf junkies like us?

The match that I am most looking forward to is Garcia vs Rahm. That looks very tasty. All the pressure is on Sergio with that one.

WTF?

Bad enough skipping for a friend's wedding, but your own?

Disrespectful!

I'm definitely biased. I feel so lucky to have this event in Austin. It is an awesome course for match play. The players like it and I know they like the town. The place on the schedule can be debated as mentioned.

I hope they can get some additional camera angles compared to last year to help showcase the course.

Austin, Texas?!

:)

I like that city.. I might retire there. Great looking course.

Same here - it's on the very short list of non-desert possibilities.

I can't retire there, I'm retired here already, but I remember a previous tour event there a year or so ago. I particularly enjoyed the course, the holes along the river and one in particular, a shortish risk and reward par 4 if I remember correctly. I am looking forward to this.

I'm also looking forward to the music, maybe someday. Will take a trip there for sure in next 5 years.

Sergio is playing well. I'm picking him to get to the semis.

Will be watching that match. Both Rahm and Sergio are playing well. Interesting possible final match includes, Reed-McIlroy and Speith-J. Thomas
