theHANGER by @Watsongolf

theHanger

I have always loved the drill using a coat hanger to get my backswing perfected (for me )

Saw this while strolling instagram and pre-ordered it at 1:00am : / I usually make these kind of purchases at that time.

First impressions. Simply boxed and well built.

I love the small clubface near the grip for clubface awareness.

After setting this up the hanger wasn't on my left forearm at set-up, it connected 8" in my backswing and stayed there through out the swing. ( I emailed customer support and the owner responded within 5 mins that my set up was fine and was due to my grip ) which made sense

First couple of balls were shanked and spat out to the right. After getting my body to pivot through this training aide works like it was intended to and my backswing IMO feels perfect and not hooded.

Make sure you set it up with the device turned to the right so it's not touching your arm at address.

It wasn't.

I actually lined up the club face and theHanger "club face" inline with each other which resulted the hanger not touching my arm at set up.

The more I use it the better it feels.

I ordered one pre-launch but it was delivered literally 6 minutes after I had left for the airport. Will be finally getting it on Thursday, which is timely as my forearms and outside of my left wrists are all bruised up from using hangers. I have high hopes for this device.

Ted Watson - owner/inventor - is a class act.

Any updates on your progress? I'm probably doing it wrong, but I'm not a fan. I think the final design made some compromises for the sake of aesthetics that really harm the functionality of the device - i.e., it touches way too high on the forearm which limits the range of "bowing/pronation of the lead wrist unless you grip on tip of fingers.

$70 was a lot but this training aid is worth it. Straight up, this is the best aid out there if you are working on wrist and forearm positioning throughout backswing. I have dealt with a shut clubface for two years and one session with The Hanger helped a lot. These two photos were taken four months apart. The picture where I'm wearing orange was taken after 50 balls with The Hanger. 526c43299e66e80232acd273c6db47ea.jpg6e4e957245db7b8c17e9598226be0fad.jpg

Heard there was a version 2 coming out, to address the issue of the top cap getting in the way of the hands. Any truth ?

In the Dan Whittaker review he says he has raised this issue with them and there may be a change. Guess they will have to clear the old stock first.

Sweet, just bought it without having seen this post. Hopefully it works out anyways.

I've had one for months but stopped using it after a couple of sessions. It's a great idea but the execution was a bit poor imo. Too many compromises in usability for the sake of aesthetics. With that said, I would have continued using it if it didn't tear my grips after a couple of sessions. The ribs inside the grip attachments just cut into the grips after a couple of sessions.

dang, i wish i hadn't read this. i wonder if v1 owners will be able to retrofit for cheaper than having to buy another one.

Helps more on the backswing

How? In what why is one more beneficial than the others?

When using the swingyde, I feel like i'm 'searching' for the hook and find it difficult to think about the rest of my swing. I find it equally distracting on the downswing.

With the hangar (and any hangar), I feel its a lot easier to groove in the feel while focusing on other aspects of the backswing, like wrist c0ck and club face relation to path.

In short.. precision? try with a regular hangar and see if it works for you!

Tried the hanger and had the same issue. I have a slight bow of my wrist at the top - the device almost forces a much weaker grip.

I found I had this same problem at first. I believe you need to set it up with the "alignment" club face slightly open to your actual club face. This allows for more bowing at the top and through the downswing.

Bingo. While I don't have the Hanger, I do have the same thing (it was a prototype for another product like this, minus the alignment clubface thingy) but what Tro said is correct. You don't want the Hanger touching at address. It needs to be open to the real clubface. I like this type of aid, really helps my dynamic loft
