Anti Rory Bias by the Media

Typing on an IPad, so I will make this brief, but this has been on my mind for a long time. I am a huge Rory fan and have been since 2009. It seems to me that the only time the show him is when he is in the final group or in a highlight. Is it political? Is the media focusing just on the young American superstars?

I don't think that's true, I feel like I see him ALL the time...the media may show other American players more but I would think that's because the field is so deep now it's hard to focus on just one or two people (i.e. Tiger and Phil).

I like the kid myself but don't detect any particular bias against him coverage wise.

The Young American Superstars are winning. But no Rory doesn't lack for coverage.

He didn't play in many events thus far (3 this season), Yes he had 2 wins late last year but otherwise was up and down and has been overshadowed by DJ. All warranted and def not political. Believe me, if they could hang their hat$ on Rory, they would. He just doesn't seem to be, or want to be, that fella.

Did some things Sunday evening that pissed off Billy Payne, then Payne and Finchem and Euro Tour were upset because of his whining about who he would play for in the Olympics (didn't help that Wozniacki's father is tight with a Euro Augusta member). He's basically blackballed and the networks are helping to punish him. Story first leaked out online in Asia somewhere - underground guy from China, I. B. Wong. Kind of sad 'cause he's a good kid.

Rory is one the media's favorites. At least here in the US.

It's all about the media trying to find "the next Tiger" or "the next marketable golfer". Rory hasn't been winning, although he has been displaying some bits of great golf, it will equate to less camera time. IMHO of course.

He's only played 2-3 times on the PGA Tour all year, and I remember him as the focus of the coverage when he was in the hunt. If there's a guy I feel is playing well week after week but never on tv it's Gary Woodland.

The American media loves the Irish, in general, but look at this week, tons of coverage of his first match but loses to Kjeldsen, charity point from Woodland, and a halve in a meaningless match. It's like he almost wasn't there. There's only so much airtime you're going to get from that; there's only so much you should get.

Personally, I hate it when you see every shot of the big names even when they're out of contention. The networks used to show two minutes of Tiger walking casually down a fairway when the leaders were hitting four holes behind him. Drove me crazy.

Now you've got half a dozen big names and whomever is playing well is sucking up all the oxygen. That's how it should be.

With all of the coverage of him standing in the hall of fame, everyone knows his name.

I think Rory is talked about plenty. There are dozens of players every week playing very well that get looked over to show the top guys, even when they are miles from contending.

I had never seen that vid before. Very cool.

Can't say I have ever thought that Rory doesn't get a bucket load of coverage.

I would say this week that his two matches were earlier in the day which meant that there wasn't much coverage of him on the TV but I guess most people would have thought he would have been playing on the weekend instead of crashing and burning.
