Spikeless Golf Shoes to Tournament?

How does everyone feel about wearing spikeless golf shoes to attend a golf tournament? I would not wear more traditional golf shoes, but the spikeless are so comfortable a look more like regular shoes.

I used to make fun of people for doing that, but no more. I've worn my FJs because my feet will stay dry in the morning dew and they are comfortable and made for walking.

That's my thought. My running shoes will get wet and don't look great either.

I always have worn spikeless as has been mentioned if there is rain or dew/water on the course and also because I will often traverse up and down hills and I like the traction that my golf shoes give versus a regular running/casual shoe. I know that Richard wore either spikeless or "shop" shoes(basically the casual version of the golf shoe, and for him they are the AE Haskells). He never wore tennis shoes with slacks and he only wore slacks on a golf course, either as a Player, tournament volunteer or observer. Again, this is a personal thing and whatever one is most comfortable wearing, whether it be for practicality appearance or a combination. Who cares, hahaha?? Have a nice week guys :) Madison

I wouldn't hesitate to wear rubber spiked (spikeless) shoes to a tournament, they are comfortable and pretty sleek. Plus if you are there early and walking up and down hills on the wet grass it makes sense

I also have some Columbia hiking type shoes , those work well too

I don't actually own any runners so it's a no brainer for me. I wear spikeless shoes off the course too. At a tournament it would be spikeless golf shoes or flip flops. And due to stuffy dress codes at golf courses that leaves only one option. Black fj green joys are my casual shoe of preference. Don't really look like golf shoes either.

not going to lie.... I laugh at people wearing golf shoes to watch. You should wear your glove too. :taunt: IMO - It would be like wearing a batting helmet to a baseball game or shoulder pads and cleats to a football game.

Wear comfy shoes, nobody is going to call on you to hit any shots.

By bringing the glove & shoes you're just prepared for the possibility of having to hold off a 5 iron mid day with sweaty palms ??

Basically, a spike-less golf shoe is just a tennis shoe. Anyway, no one would know the difference unless looking at the bottom.

I think by spikeless he means the rubber small spikes that aren't screw on

Why do people own so many pairs of golf shoes?

I have many for multiple reasons.

  1. There are times where a certain colored shoe doesn't fit the rest of what I'm wearing
  2. Playing 4 days in a row, it's nice to be able to not wear shoes that may be wet/sweaty from the day before
  3. I have 2 homes in different states
  4. My feet haven't changed size in a long time and shoes typically last a long time

How do you feel about people that go to watch a tennis match while wearing sneakers (aka tennis shoes)?

If its warm out, I am wearing flip flops and going bar foot if I am walking on grass, not cart path. If its colder or raining its going to be spike less golf shoes.

I've got foot issues (actually more like leg and gait issues but whatever). I own one pair of street shoes and two identical pairs of golf shoes. The golf shoes are the only ones I own, in fact the only shoes I've been able to find lately, that don't make my foot and leg hurt when standing for more than a few minutes or walking more than a couple of blocks at a time.

So I'd wear the golf shoes in a heartbeat if I were going to be walking around for 6-8 hours watching a tournament. Absolutely. Because they're white and pretty obviously are golf shoes, I'd probably be slightly self-conscious but that's better than being laid up for a week recovering afterwards.

Why do people own so many pairs of golf shoes?

Because they can??

I don't know, just a guess :)

When I get hit in the head with an errant drive, I sign my own glove and give it to the player.

Why do people own so many pairs of golf shoes?

That's easy. I own nine pair and play 108 rounds per year meaning no pair gets worn more than 12 times. That way they last 3-4 years, always look good, and I replace 1-2 pair each year
