Did Camera move on Lexi call?

Full disclaimer, I found this on Instagram and cut the portion out with the original poster, but it is concerning to me if this is legit and not doctored.

We are talking about her moving the ball slightly from where she picked it up. Given this picture with the lines mapped at the left of the logo and the bottom of the cup, the camera angle is most certainly more up and to the right. This much movement could certainly make it look like the ball was moved further than it was.

Anyway, found it interesting and I think it's worth discussion. When you super zoom these things to the point where the picture gets fuzzy, are we really sure how accurate they are? Especially trying to judge 3D movement on a 2D plane?

Not sure what your getting at but even the snoopy blimp would have spotted that she didnt put it in the same place

I think it's pretty clear you're not sure what I was getting it.

If camera is looking at the ball at a certain angle when it is picked up, then the camera moves to a different angle when it is replaced, it will 100% look like it was put in a different place.

The video clearly seems to show that the ball appears to have been replaced in a different spot. But my point is the camera also appears to be in a different spot. It doesn't seem as conclusive to me after seeing this picture. That's my point.

If only there was a thread for this!

;)

Sorry, other thread seemed to be about a discussion on the ruling. I'm just bringing up the variable of the camera as it does not appear to be a constant.

Hilarious , we need some AV wizards to shake this all out.

I assure you the 85 year old committee members who viewed this through their coke bottle glasses and on their 13 inch tv screens are sure. Lol. Wth ever that's good for.

No and it's been discussed in at least two other threads.

Masters has started, Lexi needs to start marking properly, move on!!!!!!!

I respectfully disagree about moving on. This cost a major championship, just moving along is tough for me. Something needs to be done. However, under the current rules they were applied properly.

If we all just move on, nothing will change. We need to keep in mind these ultra zoom HD cameras can pick up things the player can't even see. At some point we have to draw a line. As is there is a distinct disadvantage to being on camera all the time. You're better off being the player making the run from out of nowhere on a Sunday.

Unless you're gonna stick an HD camera on every golfer for every shot, using cameras to assess a penalty is stupid. Just like the DJ grain of sand penalty last year.

DJ grain of sand?

Actually, DJ got the penalty at Oakmont for his ball moving on the green. The grain of sand penalty was Anna Nordqvist in the womens US Open.

Clip of the Anna "grounding club" penalty:

The blimp would have been a much better source since it is overhead. Unfortunately, all we have is side view cameras with shadows. So very likely she did replace the ball as the rules state.

What's "correctly" she didn't move it nearer the hole and marked it besides her marker.

The whole point of this thread is not to argue the penalty as assessed, but to discuss this very point.

The camera appears to be in a different position when she picks up the ball relative to replacing it. That in itself will look like it was replaced in a different spot.

Agree, they've drawn a line by essentially doing nothing about call in infractions.

You guys need eye exams if you think she put that ball down in the same spot lol. Why are people trying so hard to defend her? It's obvious that she wasn't trying to cheat, but it's also obvious that the ball moved slightly closer to the hole.

i agree OP... if the OP footage is real then there are many questions unanswered ...

did you read the OP? IF...IF...IF the camera moved then what youve seen with YOUR eyes is an optical illusion

It's concerning that you think that is 'correct'

this from the guy who said he would have no issue holding the penalty call until the next day to insure his opponent got the 4 stroke penalty instead of the 2..... come on now Pot

Aaaaand it's back to Lexi. Lol It would be interesting if the camera is shown to have moved. If that's the case, what could the LPGA do about it now? I'm sure they would deny, deny, deny.

Can someone tell me what is correct? If it has to be the exact spot, then that is going to threaten every single televised round of golf. Surely there has to be a margin for human error - some kind of tolerance. If you pick a ball up it's going to be almost impossible to put it back in the exact spot.

So where is the line draw? 10mm, 5mm, 1mm?
