Interesting thing about DJ injury and WD

DJ said the pain was not in his backswing but after impact.

This really surprised me.

Tiger said that the reason he could play in 08 was because his knee hurt after impact, so it didn't affect his swing- it was just a pain management thing after the ball was gone.

I'm not saying DJ is soft but... maybe Tiger is just tougher?

Yea yea, Tiger loves to exaggerate the extent of his injuries right?

Maybe DJ is just applying some common sense to the situation so as to prevent further exacerbating his injury and give his body the best chance for a full recovery.

DJ is one strong SOB. Works out twice a day according to reports. A cage match between him and Tiger in his prime would be something to behold.

Different parts of the body. Differing impacts on the swing.

Playing golf with back pain is a different beast than playing golf with knee pain.

There is a difference to me between an acute injury from a trauma (fall) than something else.

It's not unreasonable to think that a day affer falling and injuring your back that it hurts like hell, you know, because it's fresh.

Even DJ is smart enough to the end result of Tiger's stubborn attitude toward injuries.

Withdraw and live to fight many more days ... or play through it, be the media darling and talk about your injury every day and spend the next 6 months lying horizontal just like Tiger.

I'm not trolling, it's a legit observation about the difference between an injury that hurts before and after impact. DJ said he hurt his elbow and hip and that it hurt after impact. According to tiger, he could play if the pain was after impact.

And he won a major walking around on a broken leg. A freekin' broken leg. Also, show me any of these softies today that can "pop back" dislocated carpal bones and keep playing.

Like you said, Tiger wasn't hurting until after impact, which doesn't affect his shots, just hurts like hell after hitting the shot. DJ was hurting at impact, which affects his shots tremendously. Why play if he can't hit the shots he wants and needs. He said, he didn't think he could compete.

Vindog is right. There is a difference between an acute spinal injury and a chronic tibial stress fracture. In no way am I taking anything away from Tiger's US Open victory, because I think it was a monumental achievement, but attempting to play with an acute spinal injury can be nearly impossible. It is difficult to draw a proper comparison between the two situations.

surprised a combination of base cocaine/dope and others couldn't get him ready to waltz around for a day or so before the warm weather comes on the weekend. Should have played. He said he could have...just wouldn't be competitive...what does that mean when people are shooting mid 70s all over the place...

Clearly that approach has worked well for Tiger and he is now injury free.

Tiger doesn't exaggerate his injuries. He really did win a tournament a week after cutting himself out of a body cast.

Tiger withdrew due to deactivated glutes. It's been awhile since I'd consider him "tough".

One of the most surprising aspects of this is that he didn't go for an Xray or MRI. And I'll credit Brandel for saying that if he did play, he could have made accommodations to his swing to minimize the pain and caused even more damage to his back.

What that means is that he probably would be sniffing 80.

I might be in the minority but the #1 player in the world who is young and fit hurts his back.

He then has specialists and Dr's saying theres no damage and he wont do anymore damage by playing. He goes onto the range and with Butch at his side hits full blooded drives without a flinch. Then an hour later withdraws.

We've all had bad backs and played and usually you put your hand on the pain if it even twinges after the swing. He didnt.

As there could be no further damage he would have got more kudos for trying to play and if it really got worse we would all understand, even if you could see him protecting it on the range I would understand.

Anyway, dissapointing for fans/organisers etc etc when all the public evidence showed he was still swinging with no chance of damage.

If it was really that bad you wouldnt even have hit the range..........in my opinion.
