- in line with his record number of top 3 finishes in majors, from 1963 to 1980 he finished in the top 6 17/18 times at the Open, with a T12 the year he wasn't in the top 6

- finished 10th in distance ranking and 13th in accuracy in 1980 ... lowest combined ranking by a wide margin since they started keeping records

Holy cow, those greens were slow and receptive at ANGC in his day! And putting with the pin in, no less!

Google the "stymie" and Bobby Jones video. Then you'll really see something.

EDIT: This will give you some idea

Cool video, thanks. It reminds me a lot of Jack's early major footage. Can you imagine how much easier it was to get up and down on greens like that?

So far the 1st episode was pretty good.

He had a lot of game as a college student. I remember reading an article or maybe a book that quoted Ben Hogan, after he'd play with Jack at Cherry Hills in the US Open, as saying something to the effect that if Jack knew what he was doing he'd of won by 10 shots.

Jack selling insurance to his frat brothers to pay the bills is pretty funny.

Here's a citation, from an oral history on golf.com:

Afterward, Hogan said, "I played 36 holes today with a kid who, if he had a brain in his head, should have won by 10 strokes."

Jack first time at St. Andrews in 64, came in 2nd.

Next time he played 6 years later is when he started picking a spot a little in front of his ball to aim.

Sanders putt makes you wretch. "I relive it every day"

Sam Snead footage is awsome,

"These bunkers look like they never saw a rake"

And Gary was often a house guest when in the states. Barbara would make him breakfast.

I completely agree with you. Just watching Sanders eyes tear up as he talked about missing that putt makes you realize the impact it had on him. Tough man, just tough.

Good article where he discusses it further:

That was a pretty funny moment, but it definitely didn't seem as if Mrs. Nicklaus found his antics funny. Though will all those boys in the house, she's probably seen it all.

That blows my mind the most. Just hangin' out on the greens of Augusta.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Love the flying home from a golf tournament after a round to watch his boys play a football game and back the next morning to tee it up. Wow amazing man and father! Just so impressive.

read an article some years ago that compared the clubs jack hit during his round of 64 with one of tiger's rounds during his first masters win ... there was almost never more than a club difference either way ... some times jack hit a shorter club, sometimes tiger ...
