Really looking forward to this event as I think it will be interesting seeing the different format from every other week. The pros really seem to get up for the Ryder and Presidents Cup so this format should get some team excitement (hopefully). And the pairings are pretty interesting too. Plus it's bringing some guys to the event that otherwise wouldn't have attended.

i think it'll be a hit for them ... they've got a no man's land date between the masters and the players ... assume a lot of players will take off until the wells fargo next week in prep for the players, so maybe this format will get some interested in teeing it up a week early, esp since it's a team event and not quite as stressful as a regular tournament ...

I've really been hoping the TOUR would add some mixture to their formats throughout the season, so I was elated to see the Zurich adopt a team component.

My hope is that the event is a success, ratings are markedly higher, and it causes the TOUR to consider adding a couple more throughout the year to help break-up the monotony of 72 stroke hole all year.

Adding in some rounds of scramble, worst scramble, combined ball, etc would be a great way to diversify the product and try to generate new interest.

Kudos to the tour for finally bringing back a 2 man format, looooooong overdue IMO

I'd rather see different formats all four days but you gotta start somewhere.

Have to admit that I would not normally watch much of this tournament but this format is gonna be fun see.

I can't wait to see a few alt shot disasters happen to a few superstars and some lower ranked dark horses make a run.

If the tour was smart they'd toss in 5 or 10 Champions tour teams (up 1 tee) and maybe a few LPGA pairings (up two tees)

Really looking forward to this one. I'd like to see a stableford tournament somewhere as a changeup as well

that's a big ask. Too many "couch potatoes" would be confused and call in supposed rules violations.

I say this in the softest way possible, but I caught the HV3 No Laying Up podcast. It was quite painful to listen to. I realize this is a bit like saying "with all due respect" and then blasting off on somebody.

HV3 sounds like a surfer from California

I will agree with you in the softest way possible. Not quite the insight I was looking for throughout that interview. Best of luck to him though! Like to see the young guys grow and compete.

80 pairings with a cut. I was watching GC and the no love for the Asian pairings. So; as an equal opportunity blogger goooOOOO Matsuyama/Tanihara!

Matsuyama/Tanihara are one of the featured groups on PGA Tour live. Getting to watch quite of bit of their round.

I too listened to the NLU pod & was dying the entire time.

I think Soly wanted to beat his head against the wall which made it all the more hilarious.

I found myself saying, wow, I'm glad for his sake he's good at golf...

HV3 & SK are like the Keanu & Swayze of this tourney... DJ would be proud..

Brutal score for them today.. one off DFL.

It's OK though as their combined IQs will be close to their scoring avg this week.

Nice to see Charlie Wie near the top of the leaderboard. I grew up in Downey so have been following Charlie Wie for a long time. I used to see him at Rio Hondo when he was in junior high school. He was shooting in the 70's at that young age and was the talk of Rio Hondo. Ironically I played in a pro am with Charlie couple of years ago. Really cool guy. Great to see KJ on the leaderboard again too. This will be the team I'm rooting for this weekend.

Enjoyed what I saw of the coverage last night. Most impressed with Spieth and Palmer - how they managed to shoot -6 given that neither of them seemed to be near their best is beyond me. Should free them up a little for the fourballs today.
