"Alternate shot" format tweak for PGA tour....play 2 balls for "Alternate Golf" instead

Coming off last years "awesome to watch" Ryder cup and yesterdays Zurich with Ryan Palmer trying to please Jordan all the time and Jordan trying to "save the day" was fun to watch with the increased pressure....we want more team events!

The biggest ding on Alternate shot is you only get to see half the shots from the stars...ok then each team plays 2 balls. Jordan drives then Palmer drives on same hole and you just alternate shot for rest of round...you hit the other guys shot for rest of round and both guys have to drive on each hole....That way you got the excitement for the fans to see shots and added pressure not let your teammate down....Where are my golf buddies were trying this next outing haha....

I like Chapman alternate shot format. I think it would make Zurich's 1st and 3rd round more exciting.

The challenge of foursomes is that there is no second ball to bail you out if you get in trouble. I prefer it the way it is.

It was discussed on air yesterday as an option for next year. Both players to tee of and take the better ball in. I don't know about the "alternate shot" part. How would that work for par 3's?

I like it the way it is. The pressure of that being the only ball, and the other guy is responsible for bailing you out of trouble (if you find trouble) is fun yo watch

Only tweak I'd say is to have both players tee off and alternated from the chosen drive.

Talk about a long day - how long would it take four players to play 18 holes in the OP's format?

It would be impossible to have 80 teams as they did in NO.

Apart from my earlier and sincere sarcasm, we finally get a real event with foursomes and fourball and an American wants it changed because he doesn't get to see his favorite player hit more shots on TV 2 out of 4 rounds? We will ruin golf yet.

What I would rather see is the first two days they play best ball. then after the cut they play alternate shot.

so I would hit your tee shot and if I hole out an you hit my tee shot and you two putt we take the lower score?

Drunken league guys should definitely not attempt to drive the ball and then play partners ball..... bowling leagues are fun

Would it speed up play?

Would depend on the player. The team would have to choose which 2nd shot to play their 3rd shot and alternate from there so it might save little time around the greens. It should not be any slower than 4 ball but slower than true alternate shot.

I think they are playing american greensomes at the Super Sixes tournament on the Euro tour this weekend.

Should be an interesting format as it encourages some risk taking off the tee but then keeps pace of play nice and quick after the t shots.

I really enjoyed the Zurich but the pace of play for 4 ball matches was horrible. Kind of like the Ryder Cup with nearly 6 hour rounds as all the extra discussions between the players eg Palmer walking 100 yards to ask JS's advice all the time.

Made the women's play-off seem like rapid golf.

they'd never do it but would be great to have them do worst ball.
