Golf Sixes

What on earth is going on here?? This is like a cross between American gladiators and pro wrestling, but somehow more cliche and contrived (which I didn't think was possible). I applaud trying different formats but the made for tv stuff doesn't work for me.

Pretty easy to not watch if it's not for you. Sometimes new things work sometimes they don't but you can learn from both experiences

Looking further down the line, perhaps it could spark new formats for international play, like the Olympics for example.

Its not for me, but I appreciate trying new things in an attempt to gain new fans.

Agree, a series of six hole team matches is a very cool idea. All the extra stuff is where they lose me.

I agree. New format, give it a chance. Not a fan of music and fireworks in sport.

I see no harm in it. I think it is great to see some fresh ideas and some good fun.

they are using scripted fan reactions instead of drunks.

The presentation is exactly what I'm trying to get away from by watching golf in the first place.

the 6 hole team format is cool! would be great to watch with the worlds best playing.

One thing I do like is the 40, going to 30, second shot clock. I enjoy listening to the club selection process but sometimes it is a bit much. When the caddy and player have an extended discussion and they check their yardage books over and over it gets boring.

Team match play is nice for a change but I still want to see the greatest battle head to head.

Politically incorrect statement of the day so far, " Well if we can't beat two guys with caddies is skirts..." Also I think it was Sullivan who called his opponents Vikings when asked what be thought of how they hit the ball. It says Sullivan is 5'9". Not sure I believe that info but he was standing next to a viking.

If nothing else, this tournament has proved 40 seconds is ample time to hit a golf shot.

Something different and I enjoyed what I managed to catch on TV earlier.

The 'atmosphere' was a little pre-contrived but whooping and hollering doesn't come easy for us Brits.

Some parts of this format are good, some bad.

If they keep tweaking it over the next few years, they may end up with something cool.

Utter drivel. Golf for the non Golfer who thinks the jeering at the RC is a good thing. Biggest disappointment is the course. Everything I have read about the venue lead me to believe it was something like the Loch Lomond of England and was the next greatest thing. Looks bland and a cross between The Belfry and Celtic Manor's 2010..for £60k entry fee I would expect it to be Queenwood Part Deux....

No live streams on Youtube or European Tour TV? Don't get it... the say "live stream" but they show the quater finals...

That (Golf Sixes) is what you do when your Tour Schedule has lots of holes to fill and you cannot find sponsors to run a serious format. Commisioner Pelley takes high risks, if you ask me. He "created" the Rolex Series (which is paid in large parts by the Tour), he brings in formats no marquee player wants to play (Golf Sixes, this other tourney in Australia). The rest of the European Tour Schedule are minor tournaments in remote locations or minor tournaments with small purses. The winner of the Dubai Race will have won all his dough at these WGC events, the Rolex events and the Majors. The rest of the Tour bleeds out, and the Golf Sixes are a clambake format that stirs attention but does nothing to help the European Tour or the game of golf. Thinking outside the box is a good thing. But Golf Sixes is like other fun formats in tennis or other sports: you watch it once, you forget it fast and you do not wait for the next edition, because you don't want to watch Paul Peterson and Gregory Havret battling it out with music playing and fans having a few too many hollering around.

I put it on for 30 minutes between the footy matches, as soon as I saw Vinnie Jones I turned it off. I guess I'll never get to find out if it's any good.

For the record. Americans hoopin and hollowin is not enjoyable, but at least it's natural and not remotely false. Brit's hoopin and hollowin is totally cringe worthy. as stated above, it just doesn't come naturally.

These kids are hitting the golfers in the head with foam bats.

Then the guy hit the ball and all the fans go,

"Ooooooooo" while the ball is in the air.

They should have those ooompa loompa mascotts run around the fairway and you get points for hitting them.

The marketer-driven, painful to see growing pains of golf. Woo-hoo!!! New Year's Rockin' Eve!!! We're all havin' fun, RIGHT!???? Won't be watching any of this for fear of seeing more cringe inducing froth.

Having said that, the play format has something going for it.

Actually, I guess it's marketed toward kids. So maybe that's what it's for. Like Saturday morning cartoons. Soon we'll see players sporting logos for sugar cereals and Marvel superheroes.
