8 out of top 10 in the world using mallet style putters.. Is this a record?

Hideki and Rickie are both using Newport 2 Style blades, the rest of the OWGR top 10 has some version of a mallet putter, and most have a large grip. What is happening!!! (I miss Tiger)

Jordan Spieth is using a blade style putter, and when he gets it going, he is the best. The mallet guys are very good tee to green, and have found that the mallet helps make up for their lack of sheer talent on the greens.

That's my take.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

Its the latest fad. It'll wear off and most will be playing an Anser style. I do know that the "stigma" among amateurs playing a mallet style has gone away much like when guys started putting their blade irons away once they realized game improvement clubs were just as good, myself included. Same could be said in the persimmon to metal transition. Guys I played with over the years laughed at those who went to a 2-ball or the like. Now I see most of the same guys using a mallet. I for one push everything with them due to my built in arc that Ive tried to change to no avail. It seemed unnatural to me almost forced and led to too much overthinking over putts.

I don't know it will be, maybe Speith will go back, but the mallets for me are so much easier to align. DJ swapped to the spider and started winning, I used to hate looking down and seeing a mallet, but I'm enjoying starting putts on the correct line and dropping my scores.

I just took a quick look at the top 10 in strokes gained putting. I could be wrong but the way I see it 7 are playing blades, 2 are playing full sized mallets, and McDowell has his small mallet with a plumbers neck. You need to go down to 18th and 19th to get to the next 2 that use full size mallets. #12 MacKenzie Hughes uses a center-shafted small mallet. Again, correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me like the top 10 in strokes gain putting: 7 blades, 2 full mallets, and 1 small mallet. The second 10 is the same 7-2-1.

Preferably both. But that stat tells us that the best players on earth hit it closer to the pin. Not putt better

"Strokes gained is a better method for measuring performance because it compares a player's performance to the rest of the field and because it can isolate individual aspects of the game. Traditional golf statistics, such as greens in regulation and putts per green, are influenced by a player's performance on shots other than those being measured." ~PGA Tour
