Best regions for New Zealand Golf

Hey guys,

I'm hoping to relocate to New Zealand this summer for a potential job relocation related to the real estate industry. A couple of possible locations include Auckland, Christchurch, and Canterbury. Other locations may be available as well. If you all had to pick, what would be the strongest golf location out of the three in terms of value, quality, and course availability? Location may be another factor as well, since I could be moving over there without vehicle accommodations (this is another issue I'll have to solve down the road). Lastly, are there any particular courses that favor young professional memberships at a good rate? Any locations that you would suggest that may have somewhat of a younger crowd would also be appreciated.

Of those for value I would say Christchurch and that would work well in Real Estate with a lot of redevelopment still happening.There are a lot of good courses there. Plus Auckland is.... Auckland :-)

Auckland is, indeed, Auckland. Home of a rampant domestic property market and everything most NZers hate. Live here and everyone else in NZ will hate you. But only because they're jealous :)

That said, while it's hard to recommend Auckland for much, it does have quite a few golf courses (I could name ten off the top of my head), and most are within practical reach of Ubers or what passes for public transport in NZ, assuming you're not free to drive over here.

As for finding a younger crowd, maybe don't go to Remuera GC or the Royal Auckland (both of which are somewhat traditional clubs), but anywhere else will have a decent cross-section in its membership. I can recommend Akarana (short but tricky) and Maunkakieki (longer, less plush, but broader membership).

Maybe the best place to start would be either of the two munis here: Chamberlain Park and Takapuna. While a bit rough and ready, are both accessible, good fun and will introduce you to a very representative group of people, many of whom play elsewhere and will be able to give you a good steer about where next.

Hawkes Bay - Napier has some beautiful courses Napier,bridge pa ,maranui and the special cape kidnappers (voted in worlds top 50 courses) - golf mag.. We also have some lovely little country courses (tepohue.pukatitri) that will remind you of the old courses in days gone by..
