Fellow WRXers,

I am headed to Myrtle Beach SC tomorrow for a weekend trip to the Barefoot Resort. Been here before for the same trip so we'd like to play one or two other courses in the area that are worth it. Any advice as to a good place to get out for a Saturday and Sunday afternoon round?

Would like to spend $100 or less per guy....Thanks!

I would assume you are wanting to stay in the north area since your at Barefoot.

Tidewater- $79.00

Glen Dornoch - $65.00

Grande Dunes - $73.00

Thistle - $91.00

Might want to call to confirm on course conditions/ punching greens. A few months ago I read that Thistles greens were gone.

What is the wildlife like around MB? I was reading about Dunes and it says they have a stretch of holes called Alligator Alley. I'm from Kentucky, so having to worry about hitting the ball near the water is not something I've generally had to worry about haha!

Well gators could be present at a lot of golf courses. If your ball if close to one I would just let the alligators have them. Or just smack your clubs together and the alligator will probably run the other way. I am not one of those people.

Would you say I have a pretty good chance of seeing one no matter which course I play in MB?

I would not say all courses. Courses near the march/ larger bodies of water would have a great chance on seeing alligators. I have played a bunch in Myrtle Beach, but do not recall seeing them in abundance at really any courses up there. I live in Charleston and have seen them more often here than in Myrtle Beach. I have seen a few gators the 3 times I have played Dunes Golf & Beach club. Still probably the best course in the area.

This dinosaur was waiting for me at the Dunes club signature hole. In fact there were 3 total gators on this one hole. Always keep one eye on the water any time you look for a ball. That applies to every course down there.

Gators are everywhere. You might not see them but they are there. Just be aware when you go near water and you should be fine. Don't ignore the snakes either while worrying about gators. Mocs are also in abundance!

Their logo is a gator, so would be pretty shocking if they didn't have a fair amount. I didn't see any when I played, but I'm sure they were there.

Just booked my rounds for the first week of July. Here is our itinerary:

MBN West Course

Myrtlewood Palmetto

Burning Ridge

World Tour

We play the World Tour Golf Links every year we go down there, as its a perfect 4th and final round for our tournament every year. Anyone else played the other 3 courses, and care to offer any tips, comments, or suggestions?!

Hole #13 at the dunes has a huge lake to play around. There are often gators along the bank and some are big like the photo in this topic.

When someone gets close, usually by accident not seeing the gator, the gator's first instinct seems to be to jump in the water, but I would not

count on that. When near the water, look for the two eyes sticking out of the water, as they swim.

Oyster Bay, The Witch and Heritage are other good gator viewing courses.

I saw that same gator on 13 there. Looks like that pic came from my IPhone LOL

Tidewater gets my vote. To answer your question about Prestwick: It is a really good course, too. It is not as wide as some others, but was in very nice shape. Better be fairly accurate, or it could be a long day! Good luck!

I've played Oyster Bay everytime we are in the area. Pretty course, nice views! Some alligators. Not as big as the ones we get in south florida!!
