I love mine. Here's a review:

Tourstage_Z101_10.jpg

PREFACE: I first demoed the Z101's at a demo day in 2004. After striping long irons, and pounding short irons most of the day, I had to have a set. I felt they were the sweetest looking, and best performing irons I've ever owned or demoed. When the price was right, I picked up a 3-PW set, with Dynamic Gold shafts. Here's my review:

APPEARANCE: Beautiful, forged clubheads with Tungsten implants in the long irons. They have various progressions throughout the set, as the long irons have the tungsten implant, and lower centers of gravity, while the short irons have a higher block of metal, for more control and lower ballflight. These are some of the most beautiful clubheads I’ve ever seen, I was totally awe-struck when I first saw them. If you look at the Z101's closely, you can see some beveled edges, probably for weight distribution and aesthetics, as well as some chrome/satin accents. The tungsten implants in the long irons are implanted flush to the surface, and barely visible, with a very subtle 'tungsten' stamp. At address, they have a very thin topline, with seemingly little to no offset.

FEEL/PERFORMANCE: The Golf Gods have bestowed the world’s best irons (in my opinion) on us, my friends! They have a tremendous balance, good sole design for tough lies, workeability for any shot you want to manufacture, and the feeling at impact is the best of ANY club I’ve demoed or owned. With the right shaft, these irons are tremendously accurate, and very forgiving, especially in the long irons. Every time I hit them, I am awe-struck at the wonderful feeling and responsiveness of these irons.

DISTANCE: The Z101's will tend to balloon very high in the short irons, if you are a steep swinger, with the wrong shaft. Otherwise - distance is comparable to most modern clubs, which tend to be lofted stronger.

CONTROL: Both the long irons and short irons are tremendously easy to control for high/low, fade/draw, or other shots you wish to hit. As mentioned - too soft of a shaft will cause very high shots in the short irons, but otherwise, these are imminently controllable irons. The Lie Angle of the Z101's are 1-2* steeper than many other manufacturers. Keep this in mind when adjusting or purchasing these irons, and as always - it's best to get tested on a lieboard to ensure the proper lie angles for you.

SUMMARY: As you can tell, I'm thrilled with the Z101's. The newer Bridgestone J33 Combos have a newer sole design which is supposed to come through the turf easier, but I think the Z101's are one of the best forged cavity back irons available anywhere.

I'm also playing a set of tour satin Z-101s with Tour Concept X1s.

Absolutely the best combination I've ever hit-long and very, very straight. I can't emphasize too much how straight this combination is--almost freaky!!!!

I believe that my Z-101s may be a tour or custom set, as they have almost no offset--certainly less than the retail sets I've looked at.

Retails don't have much offset to speak of, I don't think anyone would say Z-101's have any offset.

I've hit the z101s and agree, very forgiving and super super sweet solid. After reading you review, I want a set, my retailer had a set on the "close" out rack 4 monts ago for about $500, I should have got them , the comment about the golf gods cracked me up. I just have one question. Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel about your z101's. LOL. That was great. I had to show my wife,. good stuff.

I've had a set of these for a year now and absoultely love them....then today I dropped my mother off at Auckland International Airport and happened to decide to pop into the driving range/pro shop which is nearby.

What did I find there? An almost new set of z101's - and for only $700 New Zealand Dollars...needless to say I just had to have them. Can't wait to get the lie angle sorted, and get some new decade grips on them.

WOW, I just got my set in today and got to hit them on the range a bit. These things are very nice. Very soft, and plenty forgiving, and they set up just like a blade for the most part. Very very nice irons. I also have some Bridgestone J33 cb's and these feel much better IMO. The J33's are nice, but not even close to the Z101's. However this is all after one session on the range. So the true test will be if they stay in the bag after this winter.

Just purchased a set off of EBAY and found that these ARE the BEST IRONS EVER!!!

I've played everything on the face of the earth but found nothing that compares to this heavenly creation. THey are just so easy to play and I dont't think that I will EVER take these out of my bag.

You have to try these and once you do!.....

smooth contollable clubs... Strange how an "x factor" like appearance can hypnotize someone. When I pick up my sticks I love the look and feel in my hands... I feel like something good is going to happen. I can work the ball and get great spin. Also the feel is smooth. I also like my Macgregor m685s for other reasons, very different clubs. Love picking that long iron out of my bag on a lengthy par three just something about how it feels in my hands and my head.

I tease people and call them my ginsu's because of their craftsmanship heritage (which is more samurai than ginsu)...

i could ramble on and on and on...

Stumbled on a used set over Thanksgiving weekend at a red tag sale at the Edwin Watts store in Little Rock.

Hit them side by side to my Srixon I-506's and after two trips to the store I was sold.

Visually and sizewise, they're right in between my Hogan APEX blades and Srixon I-506's.

Great feel, control and distance.

Incredibly soft feel - at least as soft as any Mizuno I've ever hit.

I'll post a review after I've played them on the course...hopefully before March 2009.

Dang it, it's cold here in St. Louis!

Finally got to put these into play today and I'm very impressed!

Cool, overcast and windy 20-25 with gusts to 40mph on a links course.

These irons are super solid, extremely accurate and as soft as any I've ever hit. With the S300's I had no ballooning and the ball held it's line in crosswinds. Short and mid irons were stop and drop all day long on hard fast greens. Only got to hit a couple long irons and they are easy to hit and long.

Looks like the Z101's will knock my Srixon's out of the bag.

So far, the Z101's have the workability of my Hogan blades, the forgiveness of the Srixons and a softness that neither had.

Hope this honeymoon lasts a LONG time!

i know that you posted this a while ago...

however please let me know how its going?

If they play well in the cold better weather will give you a touch more yards...

the cheat with these clubs is the shaft is about 1/2 inch long so i found i had to really watch my distances... on the long irons i was getting

at times 10+ more yards which sounds great but can really goof you up on par threes.

WD - I've played 3 more rounds with the Z101's and couldn't be happier. I've gained 1/2 to 3/4 club with better yet accuracy and most of all MORE CONFIDENCE.

The feel is what's got me! I can barely feel the ball when I hit it flush.

I plan to keep these in the bag for a long time.

I've had a set for years that my brother gave to me for Christmas one year. I have the J36 combos with px 6.0 in the bag now.

But the z101 have great feel, and performed very well. Mine were a little too upright, like others have mentioned, so I switched to standard lll clubs. But I'm tempted to regrip them, and give them another shot.

I just grabbed a set (2 through PW, minus the 7 iron which was not there) at Goodwill for about $3.00 a club.

None of these are on eBay - it will be impossible to find that 7 iron.
