What a terrific US Open !

Great course

great golf

fun leaderboard even w/o a major player

Fox has been really good ... Zinger isn't mumbling, Buck is much improved, Fax terrific. Interviews with the Baconator are short and informative. Inkster is soooo much better than Dottie more Pepper.

The Ken Brown features are very cool ... He needs a bigger role

Limited time with Teflon Holly ... thank god

No mention of that puke Mike Davis for hours. No David I'm so smart Fay interviews.

Nice job Fox ... blowing away CBS miserable Masters coverage. Could you imagine Kostis with his boy Paul Casey in contention like this especially after another triple bogie. Or Ian Baker Duck Hook with only one Aussie playing well and he doesn't even know Leishman is from there.

Tomorrow should be quite a day !

It seems strange to me to see so many people firing rounds of 6,7,8 under in a US open and Justin Thomas just posted 63.

I love golf though and it IS the US Open and with so many players so few strokes apart and all of them capable posting mid 60s on any given day, it shold make for an exciting finish.

I think this reflects an overall trend in corporatized sports these days ... more offense and scoring.

Look at the NFL; highly offensive with QB's racking up 5,000 yard/40 TD seasons.

In MLB we have 60 guys who are on pace for 30+ HR seasons, and in the NBA we're seeing "tres" being drained from everywhere.

People love seeing golfers bomb 350 yard drives and bringing these courses to their knees. I bet more casual golf viewers would much rather watch a U.S. Open where -15 is the winning score, rather than one where the golfers struggle to make par.

Johnny Miller is telling all his friends his 63 was in a final round at a tougher course.

It feels like a good PGA, not a US open, I want to see more of a struggle.

That's it, I like one major to be really hard. This would be a good PGA. I suppose Birkdale is probably going to be hard. But this course is a little easy for US Open. I mean this is even good scoring for a PGA Tour event, three players in double digits under par, 13 players at -7 or better. And there's still a day left.

It's confession time: I liked chambers bay and loved the tournament it produced..

Wow, I'm glad to finally get that off my chest...

And it feels good, telling y'all, my internet friends...

When is the US Open? I don't know what this tournament is on Fox but I can't wait for the US Open to finally see the pro's challenged to just reach par.

If you took Birkdale and played it with all of its par 5s and had no wind for three days, I think the scores would be similar.

I was thinking this exact thing earlier today watching coverage. The amount of birdies, the softness of the course it seemed like I was watching the PGA Championship. I think if the course was at least firm and fast it could be a completely different leaderboard.

The thing is if you made this course a par 70, with 600 yard par 4s, it would be more like a US Open. Thomas would be at -5, which would be more in line with a regular US Open. That's the issue with this course is that one of its main defences is how long it is. But they could make it 8,500 yard par 72 in these conditions and you'd probably still get a player under par. Length just doesn't really create an issue anymore. They're regularly making a par 5 of well over 600 yards.

Meanwhile Merion could be 6900 yards and the scores would be worse. Tight courses, firm greens challenge more than length does these days.

The rain did soften the course a bit. That said these are the best players in the world and there are just 24 players better than one under per round. Put a bunch of guys that are that good together and what do you expect? When they struggle to shoot par we get a bunch of posts saying the course is too tricked up.

Personally I think it's about perfect but could be firmer. Play well and get rewarded. Stray a bit and get punished.

Just pretend its a par 67 ; )

Exactly. It's the US Open and we have a really crowded leaderboard. Good stuff.

I think the real complaint isn't the scores being shot, it's who is shooting them.

If Phil, Rory and Jordan were tied at -11 after three rounds, there would be a lot less complaints. We'd be hearing more about how this is more like the Masters with the crowd roars and how much better this is than your usual US Open.

The birdie barrage today certainly makes it difficult to feel like a US Open. I've enjoyed the way Erin Hills sets up, however I'd like to see it play more difficult.
